Kindergarten
For the month of December, the kindergarten students will be reading several fiction stories, such as Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears. The students will focus on retelling the story using the character names and the setting. The students will also explain what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. The students will use story props, pictures and the retelling hand to help retell the story.
In math we will start working with numbers larger than 10. The students work on identifying numbers 0-20, writing the numbers and matching a numeral with a set. We’ve been working on oral counting all year, but we are challenging the students to count to at least 50 without errors.
In science we are going to do hands on experiments related to forces and motion. The students will demonstrate and explain many different ways to move their bodies. We will also explore how we can use magnets to push and pull objects.
Our Technology Day will take place December 7th 9:15-10:00 am in your own child’s kindergarten classroom. The students will show off all the creative ways we are using technology in the classroom. Some of the apps we will highlight are Nearpod and Seasaw.
First Grade
Greetings First Grade Families-
We are diligently working toward wrapping up many skills before the end of the second nine weeks. We want to remind you how important it is to have your child reading and practicing sight words daily. This daily routine will significantly help your child with reading and comprehension.
In First Grade we are continuously encouraging independence and analytical thinking through problem solving. A great way to develop independence is to create routines, which will require your child to problem solve when the routine varies. Establish chores or jobs for them to consistently do daily to facilitate responsibility. We are happy to support you with resources if needed. Please contact your child's teacher for further assistance.
Upcoming events: December 8th, Technology day 1:00-1:45-December 12th, Field Trip to the Pioneer Arts Settlement-December 14th Holiday Show TimeTBA and last but not least there will be no early release Wednesdays in the month of December. From all of us to all of our first grade families we wish you a wonderful Holiday Break.
Third Grade
Third grade would like to thank all the chaperones who volunteered on our Lyonia Preserve field trip! We had an amazing time dissecting owl pellets, learning about some exotic animals and taking a hike in the preserve!
We are quickly approaching our halfway mark in Third Grade! Your child should be reading nightly for 20 minutes. We have been studying the continents and oceans along with the five regions of the United States. It's a good time to bring out some old maps and let your child show you all the new things they have learned!
In Math, we continue studying Time and Measurement. It's a great time to review multiplication with your child. Make up short stories for your child to solve. Allow them to draw the solution and explain it to you!
Upcoming Event: On Thursday, February 1 Third through Fifth grade Teachers will host an FSA information night watch for more information forthcoming!

Fifth Grade
Can you believe it's December already?? Boy, has this year flown by!!! 5th Grade has been very busy! We enjoyed "meeting" George and Martha Washington at the library and learned some cool stuff about how people lived back during the Revolutionary War times and what they wore. It was also very interesting to learn about the soldier's lives during the War. Very hard times!! In math, we have learned all about fractions and now are diving into decimals. In science, we have measured matter in many different forms and can determine the difference between mixtures and solutions. We are now learning about different forms of energy. We are looking forward to our break and want to wish everyone a very happy holiday and a great New Year!!

First Quarter Highlights
STEMing at Deltona Lakes Elementary
STEMing at Deltona Lakes Elementary has become apparent through interactive lessons and activities emphasizing science, technology and math. This will certainly assist in producing the future engineers and other 21st century professionals.
Deltona Lakes’ teachers have embraced the technology challenge of becoming Nearpod Certified in an effort to create a more engaging, interactive classroom for students. The use of Nearpod promotes digital citizenship. Anticipation is on the horizon for our upcoming Technology Day scheduled in December. On this day, each grade level has planned to make the use of technology a monumental event in the curriculum.
Science continues to come alive for students as they explore the nature of science through the use of science tools. Deltona Lakes’ students and staff are eagerly awaiting our upcoming Science Night in January.
Math Talks have become all the rave in primary and intermediate grades. Students take an active role in math instruction as they verbalize their mathematical sense and understanding. On Tuesday, November 7th Deltona Lakes students participated in Publix Math Night. This was an interactive experience for parents and students. This allowed students to apply and observe the relevance of their learning in a real-world setting. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Deltona Lakes’ emphasis on science, technology and math activities will ensure that our students are on their way to receiving a superior 21st century education.

Tercer grado
Segundo y tercer equipo arriba
M-m-m m-m-m bueno!
