Arbor Springs September Newsletter
2017-2018: Continuous Learning and Growth for All!
Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success.
From Dr. D. and Dr. T.
Welcome back to another great year! If you have been in the building, you may have noticed our new SHIELD security system. Many hours went into this project and it will provide a wonderful extra layer of security for us! We are able to securely lock every door in the building with the touch of a single button, which also notifies 911 that we are in need of assistance. It also enables us to instantly shut strategic doors within the building. We are very pleased and excited to have this state of the art security system.
We also have new playground equipment that is ready to install and more on the way. With the help of our PTA (and thanks to your support, we are replacing all of our slides and swings, and we have a couple of other new items on each playground. Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support of our school. Don't forget to join PTA if you haven't already.
Based on our analysis of last year’s Milestones achievement data, we feel that our school can benefit from shared planning, assessments, and analysis of student work. We have developed a SMART goal for math and for ELA. Each week, we meet with teachers to discuss student progress, upcoming instruction, and strategies to help all students be successful.
We have a few new faces in the building! Ms. Gwen Muwakkil has joined us in Ms. Hand's class and Iralynn Johnson is our new permanent substitute. We have quite a few others who joined us over the summer, so be sure to check out the display board in the front hallway!
Career Day is coming September 22!

Mrs. Clay's Counseling Corner
The character word for the month of August was respect. Respect is courteous consideration and high regard for yourself and others. Respect is a way of treating or thinking about something or someone. It always helps to think before you say or doing things. Always think about how others might feel.
Respect and School
The first few weeks of school you are learning rules and routines. It is important to put what you are learning in practice. As a gator, one of our expectations is to be respectful! Respect has several meanings.
Having regard for others. That means accepting that other people are different but just as important as you feel you are. Some people may call this tolerance.
Having a proper respect for yourself. That means that you stand up for yourself and don't let yourself be talked into doing things that you know is wrong or makes you feel uncomfortable.
Not interfering with others (or their property.)
To consider something worthy of high regard. That really means taking all those other values and living them.
