A Note from Me
When I checked out on Wednesday, the campus was participating in some Team Building fun with Dave and others were celebrating the tremendous efforts of coaches and students in the Academic UIL competition. We had a fantastic showing. We had so many winners and everyone I encountered was such a great sport. Please go to Facebook to see pictures of our winners. I'm sure there are more to come.
I have to say a huge thanks to the UIL coaches who did an outstanding job. I'm sure I will miss a coach but I know that Jessica played such a critical role in preparing the teams AND making sure everyone played by the rules. Her hard work to prepare for the actual day of competition was great. Her assistants on competition day, LeAnn, Jennifer G., and Brandi are also appreciated so much. All of the coaches also including Shannon, Lori R., Tori, and Brittany helped our Bransom Bobcats be so strong. While the students performed well and showed their skills, they also built so many skills as they prepared and as they performed. They are smarter for their participation. Thanks for making it happen!
This week is going to be a busy week but we can not lose sight of our vision. Stay focused on providing your Tier II instruction with the same fidelity you provide your Tier I instruction. I know while we have time taken on picture day, time on Open House prep, and Vertical PLC time, we will so much more than ever have to be intentional about every minute with your students. Every single minute must count! You have invested too much time and energy planning and preparing to not get the full benefit of your hard work. Your students deserve your best even this week.
Speaking of Open House, last week I sent a checklist to help you prepare for Thursday. Make Thursday a spectacular evening for your families. Make it worth their time.
In closing let me just give you a word that keeps popping up in different gatherings. "Humans have the uncanny ability to make things more complicated than necessary..." The truth is that our little people need someone who care about them. Teachers have a unique opportunity to create relationships with our little people. Some of our students have no idea what it is like to be respected, be heard, or be expected to be better. Some just see no future. We must provide respect. We must provide a listening ear. We must help them envision a better life. Once we build these kinds of relationships, learning is much easier.
If you are "on" this week, be on 100%.
Thanks, Joy
MASON'S MESSAGE
Joy and I just spent two days at a Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH) training with other administrators and some teachers from across the state last week. Some of you may have experience or training with CKH, and for those who have not, I must say it was an amazing two days! Simple little procedures that make such a tremendous impact on the students and more importantly, the teacher and classroom instruction. We heard from students who have embraced CKH and are living testimonials to the power of the program. We also heard from teachers and a principal who have championed the power of CKH in their schools. They spoke first hand the power of building relationships and how a simple handshake or fist bump in the morning combined with an end of class or end of day launch positively and drastically altered the culture of the school. There is too much information about CKH to cram into this newsletter, but if you are interested in learning more, please come by and see me. It made me look at education differently and maybe it will change your perspective too.
DRILLS: Please be sure to review LOCK DOWN drills with your students as we will be having a drill soon. Please remember in a LOCK DOWN drill the idea is to get your students quietly away from an interior or exterior windows and doors so they cannot be seen or heard by an intruder. Also remember that Joy or myself will unlock your door and greet you when the drill is over. DO NOT come out of your classrooms or release students if you hear any bells or announcements. We are also working out a new Tornado and Shelter in Place Plan and are awaiting approval before we move forward.
Arts Integration Lesson Planner: Thank you to those that have already filled out the Arts Integration Lesson Planner from your collaborations with the Arts Department a few weeks ago. Grade level teachers, please do not forget to enter your data into the lesson planner I sent out in Google Docs. Please have your data entered by Wednesday, March 7.
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing great things in your classrooms.
