WHS Class of 2020 Graduation Update

The month of May is usually dedicated to fun and exciting ways to honor our graduates. While this year has been very different we want to try to hold to these traditions as best we can. While some of the normal events have been pushed back into the summer we have also planned a few new events to honor this very special WHS Class of 2020.

Below is a list of events that we have planned for our Seniors. In-person graduation was approved by Governor Abbott on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, with some guidelines in place. All ceremonies must take place after June 1, 2020. We are not allowed to have any other in-person celebrations which mean that our Senior Breakfast is being canceled. Students will be given those awards at the graduation ceremony. We are also not allowed to hold a graduation rehearsal in order to cut down on possible exposure to the virus.

Senior Spotlight

Starting May 1st we will spotlight four seniors each weekday on our Waskom High School Facebook and Instagram pages. Seniors have been sent a survey to fill out so that we can include their information in their spotlight.

Delivery of Senior Goodies

Be sure to answer the door should your doorbell ring! There may be something out there that you'll want to see.

Senior Scholarship Ceremony

We will hold a Zoom Meeting beginning at 6:00 pm this night to award our seniors the local scholarships that they are receiving this year. Information will be sent to the students through their school email on how to join the Zoom. Parents, please join us to celebrate these awards.

Class of 2020 Parade

Our town will honor our seniors on the day that we were supposed to graduate. Decorate your car and line up in the high school parking lot at 6:30 pm. The parade will begin at 7:00 pm. We will parade through town so that the community can celebrate and honor the WHS Class of 2020!

Baccalaureate Service

The Waskom Ministerial Alliance will honor the Class of 2020 in a Baccalaureate Service on Sunday, June 14th at 6:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Waskom. Students will wear Sunday dress and join us for an inspiring night and words of encouragement from community pastors.

Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony

We will host a graduation ceremony at Wildcat Stadium on Friday, June 19th at 8:00 pm. Each graduate will receive up to 12 tickets to give to their family members to attend. Graduates can pick up their tickets during the week of May 18th-22nd when textbooks, technology, and other school materials will be turned in. A more detailed schedule will be sent via email to students next week.

Guests will be seated in both the home and visitor's bleachers and will be seated with their families in groups of 6 at least six feet apart from other families. Families will be able to view the graduation ceremony as it takes place in the north endzone. Those in attendance will be required to present their tickets for entrance into the ceremony and will undergo a health check survey before being allowed to enter.

Only graduates, staff members, and the professional photographer selected by the district will be allowed on the field.
