How can I identify and prevent potential phishing attempts?

To keep your personal data from being stolen, you can follow some easy guidelines:

  • Create a spam email account you can use for signing up for social media or other reasons.
  • If you suspect you have received a dangerous email, run over the URL to make sure it is accurate. If the URL is a jumble of numbers or something you do not recognize, delete the email! Unsecured sites will have an http: at the beginning.
  • Check the sender of the email. If it is not official, delete!
  • The sender will be trying to receive something from you, such as your credit card or personal information.
