Spoils System

Jackson was president and fired about 20% of his federal officials and hired his supporters to help him during the election 1828. This is known as the Spoils System.


He is pushing the heads down of the people he has fired and doesn't need anymore.


He has his hat full of papers bribing his supporters.


He wants to hire his supporters to help him win the election.

Pendleton Act

This law allowed the president to decide which federal jobs would be filled in.


They support the spoils system to fill in the government jobs with their supporters.

Party of Morality

The republicans were also seen as the party of reform because they supported abolition, temperance, and other reforms.

Interstate Commerce Commission

This act was the first federal law designed to regulate interstate commerce for railroads. It helped limit the rates of the railroads.

Sherman Antitrust Act

A collection of federal and state government laws that regulates the conduct and organization of business corporations, generally to promote fair competition for the benefit of consumers.


It has certain rules for the business competition so business won't go bankrupt.


"Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction thereof; shall be punished by fine not exceeding five thousand dollars, or by imprisonment not exceeding one year, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court."

Populism

The movement to increase farmers political power and to work for legislation in their interest.

The Grange

Kelley founded the nation’s first national farm organization, the Patrons of Husbandry, better known as the Grange.

16th Amendment

Allows the federal (United States) government to levy (collect) an income tax from all Americans.


In April 8th, 1913 they passed the 16th Amendment of people having to pay for taxes.

A former member of Congress from Nebraska, was only 36 years old when the Democrats and Populists nominated him for president.

Jim Crow Laws

The statutes enforcing segregation


This states how even though they're a different race but born in the U.S means they have the right of the U.S Citizenship.

Ida B. Wells

An African-American journalist, newspaper editor, suffragist. She strived for African-American justice.

17th Amendment

United states senators are elected by the people of their states.


Expressing what the 17th Amendment of how it works by letting the people pick for their state.


The 17th Amendment brought money to the united states by the people o their state picking who would be their senator.


Everyone's vote is counted to pick the best senator for their state in the united states.

18th Amendment

The prohibition of the consumption of Alcohol and it took effect in 1919, but failed.


People arguing that they want beer because it had been prohibited from it being sold, and transported.


Everyone was gathered up and was protesting for them to bring back the right of drinking beer.


Gangsters and criminals became rich by selling alcohol that they managed to get into the town.

19th Amendment

Every men and women are created equally, and should be treated the same. Equal voting rights. (Passed in 1920)


Women's were treated very different from men and they have qualified to be equal.


The ladies quit suffering after the 19th Amendment because now they are given the right to vote.


The women's walking downtown to show that they need everyone's help and support to give them equal rights like the men.

Triangle

A factory that burnt down in 1911 that killed 145 workers. Most of the victims died because of safety issues. Doors wouldn't unlock properly and the main workers were immigrants
