Polser STEM Academy-Week of August 19th, 2019

Welcome Back!

It has been a wonderful first week back! Our students have settled into their routines, built relationships, and started spinning for their houses. We will have a list of students for each house available at grade level orientations this week.

Every day dismissal has gotten much faster. I appreciate everyone reading our FAQ's for important information. We ask parents not to get out of their cars in the car lane during arrival and dismissal. If you need to get out of your car, please park and walk your student to the front door or at the end of the day, meet them at the front or side door depending on grade level. Those without a car tag may be asked to park and check with the office to ensure they are listed in Skyward for pickup. Please know we do this for the safety of our students. All PreK/ECSE parents must walk their students into the building every morning. Please make sure you have a car tag for dismissal.

Kindergarten students have all been placed in their homerooms for the year. We look forward to seeing parents only on Monday, August 19th, at 5:30, for Kindergarten Orientation, and at 6:15 for 2nd Grade Orientation. We will have House Shirts on sale for $5 before & after each orientation. We will have order forms available for those not able to attend or for additional inventory as needed. I have included all Orientation Dates below for the remainder of the week.

There is an Emergency PTA Meeting in the library to approve our budget on Thursday, August 22nd at 5:30 p.m. We need PTA members to review and approve our budget for the 2019-2020 school year.

Our new LISD Security Vestibule in the front entrance is up and running. Please watch the video for more information. You will need to have a photo id to enter the front the door. We appreciate your patience as we work out the kinks.

Every year, Polser STEM Academy practices all of their safety drills within the first few weeks of school and every month throughout the year. All of our drills will occur on Thursday, August 29th, Evacuation and Bad Weather Drills, and on Friday, August 30th, Lockdown and Lockout Drills. We always notify parents via our Facebook & Twitter page before a Lockdown Drill & after every drill to provide an update. For more information on our safety protocols, please link to our Safety and Security page on the LISD website https://www.lisd.net/Page/20301.

Thursday folders will begin going home this week from every teacher. Please make sure you take out your child's papers and return the folder to their teacher each week.

I have included important information about volunteering in LISD below. A volunteer form will also be sent home in Thursday folders very soon regarding volunteer opportunities at Polser this year.

I know I have provided a lot of information this week. Thank you for all you do to ensure the success of our students.

Have a wonderful week,

Mrs. Phelps

Staff Spotlight

Ms. Casida - Assistant Principal

So excited to have started my 10th year here at Polser STEM Academy! This is my 21st year as an educator. I am a graduate of UNT and upon graduating I took a 6th grade teaching position in Dallas ISD. After a year in Dallas I began teaching 5th grade at Degan Elementary. I taught there for eight years, then I moved to Delay Middle and taught 6th grade for two years. Like Mrs. Phelps, I am a product of LISD. I, however, graduated from the better high school, LHS. I live in Flower Mound with my son Liam and our dog Bentley. I love to travel and spend time with family and friends. What I love most about school? I love building relationships with our students, staff, and parents. I want everyone to feel welcome, loved, and supported here at Polser STEM Academy.
