CES Weekly Buzz January 11, 2016
From the Desk of Mrs. Proskey
Reminders...
- MAKE-UP DAY in Monday, January 18th. (School is in Session)
- EVALUATIONS will begin this week.
- PARENT NEWSLETTER- If you have anything to add to the March Newsletter that will be sent home to parents (electronically), please send it to me by the end of next week.
- DETENTION SUPERVISION- Please start signing up for after-school detention supervision.
- SUPERVISION - There is a problem with the fifth and sixth graders using the stairway across from Deb Stevens' room at the end of the day. The kids are running, pushing and throwing items as they approach the stairway, are in the stairway, and when they're exiting the stairway. Mrs. Kinzie voluntarily supervised this area after school last year, but she now has a class until 3:00 and cannot get there in time. Solutions are needed. Mrs. Craft has offered to change the dismissal procedures for sixth graders. A volunteer would be great.
- SAFETY CONCERN-Exiting to Recess - Mrs. Proskey would like us to exit to recess time on the playground through the door at the north end of the building (near the art room), directly onto the playground. When we are taking kids to blacktop recess, we can use the doors at the back of the building, directly onto the blacktop. This should help us keep track stragglers.
- LUNCH DISMISSAL - When keeping kids in for recess, please don't let them come to the cafeteria until their appointed lunch time.
- SUGGESTIONS FOR GRADE LEVEL INTERVENTION- Please email me with your grade level idea that you have come up with that works for you that will help make your students shine.

Title: World Read Aloud Day...February 24, 2016
World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words and creates a community of readers taking action to show the world that the right to literacy belongs to all people. By raising our voices together on this day we show the world’s children that we support their futures: that they have the right to read, to write, and to share their stories. You will find the World Read Aloud Day 2016 materials below.

Title: Article of the Week, Vale, Oregon
This has tremendous potential.... (190 articles)
Below is the link to Article of the Week from a middle school in Vale, Oregon. It is for middle schools, but there is a template that could be adapted for upper elementary. There is also a power point explaining Article of the Week and a little background on the school that created it. All articles listed on the site are lexiled and in both pdf and Word. The articles go back as far as 2010. A new article comes out each Wednesday and other schools are welcome to use them as long as credit is given to Kelly Gallagher for the original AoW concept, Vale Middle School for the work/effort put into each week's article, and the original author of the article.
This Month's CES Sport Info/ Practice Schedule
6th grade girls basketball will be starting January 20th. All girls who participate will need a physical on file with the school before practicing. Physical forms are available in the office. Information packets will be sent home when we return to school in January. Girls need to get a physical before the first practice on January 20th if they plan to play basketball. If you played 6th grade volleyball, that physical will work for basketball. If you have any questions call Chris Stevens at 574-216-5007.
