Onekawa School Newsletter

Week 9 Term 3, Friday 23 September

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora parents and caregivers

We held our Quiz Night last Friday and have raised $6,500 to go towards our Playscape! Many thanks to the members of Team Pipi for organising a fantastic evening.

Our next fundraiser is the 'Moveathon' being held next term on Tuesday 8 November. Details will follow in next week's newsletter.

I was proud of our children's efforts at the Napier School's Cross Country event on Tuesday. Thanks to you all for your dedication to training and representing our school. Photos of our team in action are shown below.

Finally, congratulations to two of our staff members for representing Hawkes Bay in National sports events last week. Mr Bronson Meehan competed at the New Zealand indoor cricket championships in Wellington. Mrs Charlotte Loader represented Hawkes Bay in the New Zealand Hockey championships in Dunedin. Way to go you two... we are very proud of you!

Have a great long weekend; see you all back on Tuesday.

Nga mihi,

Steve

Onekawa School is now Solar Powered!

Today we switched on our solar panels for the first time!

On sunny days, we should be able to generate enough from our panels alone to power the school.

We are grateful to Integrated Energy for partnering with Onekawa School. They have installed the panels, and will maintain them, with no cost to the school. We will receive discounts from our power account each month.

We have access to our solar usage statistics via an app. This will provide some exciting learning opportunities for our children!

Pictured below is the electrician switching on the solar panels... awesome!

Learning Folders

Learning folders will be sent home this Tuesday so your child can share their progress with you.

We are not holding learning conferences this term; they will take place again at the end of the year.

As always, if you ever have any questions about your child and their progress, we encourage you to contact the class teacher.

Our Year 6 children attended a fun day at William Colenso College Yesterday. Activities included the climbing wall and baking!

Sports Uniforms

Soccer players and Cross Country runners - Please return your washed uniform on Tuesday unless you play Miniball (and need it for your last game this week).

We need the uniforms back on time so they can be reissued for sport in term 4. Thanks!

Barrel required for next term! Can you help?!

As part of next term's learning, year 5 and 6 students will learn the traditional Māori game of Ki o Rahi.

We need to purchase all of the equipment which is quite costly.

One part of the equipment is called a tupu. A tupu is like a barrel and they cost around $200 each. Is there anyone that has something similar to the picture that they could donate to our school?

Please let the office know if you can help, thanks!
