Secretary Treasurer's Report - February 15, 2017
Financial Report – Period Ending January 2017
Current deficit of $60K
This deficit is due to the Government of Alberta not paying out funds per 2016-17 enrolments yet. However, the Division will have received an additional pocket of funding to completely cover this issue by March 15, 2017. No schools or departments with significant concerns.
Due to the decline in Alberta’s economy, waivers have increased by 35.6% from 143 to 194 in 2016-17. Total % of the population eligible for waiver increased from 2.32% of students in 2015-2016 to 3.07% of all students this year. The Division continues to ensure that finances are not an impediment to a child’s education.
ABJ Robotics Team Victorious at Provincial Competition
The robotics team at Archbishop Jordan Catholic School recently won the provincial title at the Vex Championships at NAIT. Next on the list for this amazing team will be to travel to Louisville, Kentucky with their coach Scott Crosbie to participate in the 2017 World Vex Championships.

Central Learning Services Building 2018
With a goal of improving students services, staff supports, and financial efficiency, the Board of Trustees have approved a plan that will see a difference starting fall of 2018 with the creation of a new EICS Central Leaning Services hub. EICS has simply outgrown our existing location and in moving to land behind Sherwood Park Costco, we can now accommodate all of our numerous departments in one centralized location and have more space for staff and student supports.
Check out all the information in the following fact sheet.
EICS Calendars Approved for 2017-2018 School Year
Elk Island Catholic School Board is tasked each year with approving a school calendar.
- Goal is to develop a calendar that meets the necessary hours of instruction, supports a quality learning environment and supports teacher and staff professional development.
- Joint transportation with EIPS and Battle River is a consideration.
- Three calendars have traditionally been approved each year to support the differences between the EIPS and Battle River calendars and the unique requirements for OLMP’s 4-day week.
EICS referenced the approved EIPS calendar and the approved Battle River calendar to develop the EICS 2017 – 2018 calendars. The calendars were ‘Approved In-Principal’ during the January Board meeting. The calendars were then circulated to Schools, School Councils and ATA local for feedback.
