Mr.Dussel
The Doctor of the Annex
Intro
Mr.Dussel is a dentist around war time in the beginning of wwii. Although he never knew he was Jewish the nazi party labeled him as one. In fear of being taken to the camps Mr.Dussel asked a Dutch friend named Meip if there was a place he could hide. It turned out there was two families hiding together. he ended up hiding with the franks and van daans. And lasted to a few months before the war was over.
Pactice
I chose a toothebrush to symbolize Dussel's career as a dentist.
This was mr Dussel's job before the holocaust. This proves the nazis wrong because they thought the Jews were stupid but it takes a lot of intelligence to be a dentist. because of his doctors degree, he helps the family with sickness. But does not react well to problems. This makes Anne show resentment towards him.
Religious views
I chose a Star of David to symbolize that he was born Jewish but never knew he was.
Because he did not want to be treated like a Jew he thought about becoming catholic.
The Nazis would often take people who never knew they were Jewish. Often times the Gustapo would infiltrate hiding Jews which is what Dussel feared the most. The Star of David was put on Jews to separate them from people. So Dussel's business began to fall causing him to flee.
Themes
The theme of the book is the only true wealth in this world is family. An example of this is when the Franks parents could of easily just went to the camps and been separated, but they chose to stick together. The 2nd example was although Meip wasn't family she acted like family such as protecting the franks and van dans. Another example is the more the play went on Anne began to become more accepting of her mother. And the mother became more accepting of Anne. All these are examples of the theme the only wealth is family
The second theme of this book is peace can die but hope lives eternal. An example of this is when the thief caught them rather than do anything in there power to runaway they had hope that they would survive. A 2nd example of there hope was even though the War was going outside. They also still celebrated Hanukkah. Even though food was scarce they still found a way to eat. The final example of the theme peace dies but hope is eternal is there will to stay together for several years.
