About Ghana
Ghana was founded in 1957 when it became the first sub- Saharan country in Africa to gain its independence. Ghana's top three ethnic groups include Akan with 45.3%, Mole- Dagbon with 15.2%, and Ewe with 11.7%. Since recently John Dramani Mahama became the leader it seems like he has things under control to this day.

John Dramani Mahama
He is the leader of Ghana and was born November 29, 1958 in the Damongo. Mahama has been in office since July 24, 2012 and is married to Lordina Mahama. He is apart of the National Democratic Congress.

Cape Coast Castle
It was built for the slave-trade and is one of the most impressive of Ghana's old forts. It was originally built by the Dutch in 1637 then the British took control of it in 1664 and turned it into their colonial headquarters. The Cape Coast Castle is an excellent museum with information about the history of Ghana.
Elmina and St George's Castle
Built by the Portuguese in 1482, it was captured by the Dutch 150 years later and became the headquarters of their West Indies Company for the following 250 years.
Accra, Ghana's Capital
Accra is a city with about 2 million residents and one of Africa's safer capitals. Accra has a mixture of modern buildings, shanty towns, occasional castles and lively markets.
