Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Did you know that each morning, students participate in a 'Morning Meeting' with their classmates? During this time, students talk about a wide variety of topics ranging from perseverance, being a good friend, emotional regulation and more. This week, students will focus on understanding and responding to bullying. If you would like to help support these conversations, our daily topics are:

Monday: What is Bullying? (Understanding the difference between rude, mean and bullying)

Tuesday: How to respond to bullying.

Wednesday: Cyberbullying (What is it and how to respond)

Thursday: How might someone feel who is being bullied (and how to be a good friend)?

Friday: Spread Kindness (small acts of kindness can make a big difference).

Asbury Moments

Other Asbury Reminders....

We have lots of new families...please review arrival and dismissal procedures. Also, please dress for the weather! Students will be outside unless the temperature drops below 25 degrees.

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

With so many new families joining Asbury, here is a great reminder regarding arrival and dismissal!

Arrival:

Students will be permitted in the building at 9:00 am.

Walkers:

If your child walks to school, please do not have them arrive early as we do not have staff members outside to monitor students. As the weather changes, please have your child dress accordingly.

Parent Drop-Offs:

Parents who are dropping off students may use the front loop. The front loop will have two designated lanes. The lane closest to the street will be for car drop offs and daycares only. A staff member will open the car door for your child. Please do not allow your child to exit the vehicle without the assistance of a staff member. This is for the safety of your child, as busses will also be using that same loop during drop off. Please make sure your child is ready to exit your vehicle.

Dismissal:
Dismissal will begin approximately 3:35 pm. Parents are NOT permitted to use the front loop in the afternoon. Please park on the street or in the parking lot.

Attendance

In the event of a student absence, it is important that the office is notified. Even if you report an absence to your child's teacher, a phone call must still be made to our attendance office at 614-833-2000. If our office does not receive a phone call, an attendance call will be sent out by 10:00 am notifying you of your child's absence. Students who arrive after 9:15 am will be marked as 'tardy'. Information regarding absence hours can be found here.
