News from Mrs. Mankin

Dear Bulldog Families,

To better meet the needs of our students as we transition to Phase 2, our 50-50 model, the decision was made to adjust the in-person school day. Teachers will now be working with all virtual learners from 9:00-9:40 as well as conducting a 10-minute afternoon check-in. In-person learners will now start their day at 9:45. Our school day will end at 3:15.

We are also developing some open enrichment/extension opportunities that will be led by our Teacher Librarian, Teacher Development Specialist, School Counselor, and possibly some other support staff. This learning will be offered to virtual learners in the afternoons. More specific information will be shared by the end of this week. We continue to be so thankful for the flexibility and perseverance of our Bulldog staff and families as we respond to city, state, and school corporation updates. The grace, support, patience, collaboration and determination that I see on a daily basis from our entire learning community is truly astounding - and these characteristics are what make us BULLDOG STRONG!

As always, thank you for partnering with us in education.

Sincerely,

Lori Mankin, Principal

HSE Elementary Schedule - Phase 2

We will begin week 1, on Tuesday, September 8th so the red group will be attending in-person. Remember that the red group always attends in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays. The blue group always attends on Thursdays and Friday. Wednesday is the day that alternates between the two groups for in-person learning. Please reach out to your student's teacher or the office if you have any questions.

Face Covering/Mask Wearing for Safety

The link below, from the IN Dept. of Education, contains helpful information regarding face masks/coverings for families. If you have not already, please be sure to spend some time talking to your children about this important safety measure. Thank you!
We have created additional zones for recess at New Britton to help us keep classroom cohorts together. Due to the increase in zones and need for increased safety measures, we are ordering some additional equipment for students to use when they are outside. Please access this NBE Amazon Wish List if you are looking for ways you can help with our transition back to school. We have listed some bigger items here, but we are also purchasing some other items with school monies. We would appreciate any assistance you can provide. Thank you!

School Lunch News

Student school lunches will be served in paper bags as an increased safety measure. They will still have several lunch options; teachers will be taking a lunch count in the morning each day. If your student will be bringing a lunch from home, we recommend that the lunch be packed in a paper bag for easy disposal and as a health/safety measure.

Snack Attack Program

New Britton Elementary is pleased to announce the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday. This program will officially start the week of September 14th. To participate, please have your student's name to Sherri Leiner by Wednesday, September 2nd. Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.

There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Mrs. Sherri Leiner, NBE School Counselor at sleiner@hse.k12.in.us or (317) 594-4130 ext. 2087.

Notes from the Nurse

If you indicated your child has asthma or a food allergy on Skyward, Mrs. Cernero emailed or provided you with a Care Plan to complete and return to the school.

If your child will need to take a scheduled medication at school every day or store an as-needed medication in the clinic, you can find the Medication Permission Form and care plan at the link below under the Services Tab.

Any prescription medications must be in the original prescription bottle. Please note the clinic no longer has permission to keep Benadryl as an emergency medication. If you wish to have Benadryl available for your child on an as-needed basis, please provide your own supply and a permission form.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email Heather Cernero at (317) 594-4130 or hcernero@hse.k12.in.us
