Family:
My husband's name is Zach and we have 3 kids. Zach is a manager in the Systems Department at McMaster-Carr in Elmhurst. Lucy is 8 and absolutely loves that she is the oldest. Lyla is 6 and thankfully goes with the flow. Drew just turned 3 and is still hanging on tight to his terrible 2s...aging is difficult. We love experiencing new places together, getting away on vacations that aren't too long of a car-ride from home, and eating popsicles every day of the summer.
This summer I wrote the curriculum and co-coordinated the week of VBS at our church. The theme was "Candy Land." I was granted permission from the Hasbro Company to use the name "Candy Land" along with the images of the characters and game board for the curriculum, promotions, and decor for the week of VBS. It was a lot of work but a huge success with 65 kids attending our very small church for the week.
I taught Music for the first 4 years of my teaching career, but don't ask me to sing! I've played the violin since I was in 3rd grade. In college, I played with the Notre Dame Orchestra. I used to play for a lot of weddings until I realized that some brides can be a lot more stressful to work with than a classroom full of students. After teaching four years of Music, I made the switch to teaching EL because I was seeing over 1,000 students per week and really desired to get to know my students better. I love working with my students in small groups and learning so much about them, their families, as well as their culture over the years.

FEEDBACK REQUEST
I have been giving the traditional way that we have done our awards ceremony at the end of the year a lot of thought. I would like to propose a change in format and would like to get some of your feedback on the idea.
Instead of having one event, where we have all the awards, with an intermission, I would like to propose having smaller, less formal grade level recognitions. My thinking is that it is a long time to sit, particularly for our youngest students, and the pay-off is pretty small with only some students receiving some type of award.
If we were to have a grade level specific recognition event, we could still present all of our traditional awards from in the past, and also cater it to anything specific your grade level would like to recognize. I was thinking these events would be no more than about 20 minutes, perhaps in the LRC.
For the bigger awards, we could invite the parents just as we have done in the past, instead it would be a much more informal and a smaller production.
At this point it is just a working idea. I am really just brainstorming but would love to hear your thoughts. Please take a moment to provide some feedback about this idea. Please feel free to share any thoughts you may have.
