Note from the Principal
December is here!!! What a whirlwind Fall we have had at Boone so far this school year. The classrooms have been bustling with activity and learning, the halls filled with excited children and wonderful artwork from our art team, and the stage has been full of fabulous music from joyous children’s voices and it looks like it will continue into December.
We have the book fair going on right now and our Literacy Night tonight!!! Our first graders will be performing for us this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. and tomorrow morning at 7:45 a.m., and our fabulous choir will be performing tomorrow night at the Crockett Vertical Team Festival and there is still more to come!! Please keep your eye on our calendar to keep up with all that is going on so you don’t miss out on a single exciting event.
Thanks to all of our fabulous teachers, staff, and parents for all you do here at Boone to make our school such a positive, wonderful place for learning for our children. At Boone children definitely come first and your actions show it every day!!! Thank you so much.

Tree Planting and Free Tree Giveaway
Boone Elementary Tree Planting
On December 3rd, Boone will have 100 new trees planted! Tree folks and the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department are working together to beautify our campus. Trees will be supported with water for three years and hopefully live on to provide shade and comfort for future generations of Boone Bears. Treefolks already has a crew of volunteers but if you would like to take part in the planting contact Deke Foxhaven at deke@foxhovenlaw.com. We will gather on the black top at the back of the school the morning of December 3rd to get instructions and begin the dig! Wear long pants and closed toe shoes, as we will work with shovels and rakes. Water, coffee, light refreshments, gloves, and tools are provided.
This project is made possible by: TreeFolks’ CityShade program, the City of Austin Park & Recreation Forestry Division, and YOU!
Boone Elementary Tree Give Away
NeighborWoods is a partnership between TreeFolks and the City of Austin to lower summer temperatures and reduce energy consumption by investing in tree canopy cover for Austin area neighborhoods.
Planting trees around your home will lower your energy bills, make your home more comfortable and beautiful, and clean the air you breathe. Trees reduce water consumption in the landscape by providing shade to other plants and even help increase the region’s water supply by helping water soak into the aquifer. In other words, planting trees is a great way to help preserve Austin’s quality of life.
Sounds great. How can I get a free tree? Attend the tree giveaway event at Boone Elementary on December 3rd from 12:00 - 2:00
Trees will be distributed from the front of the school. You can get 1 tree per person to take home that day. Bring a copy of your utility bill or a photo ID to prove residency.
Counselor's Corner
3rd Annual Canned Food Drive
Boone Elementary School is going to have a canned food drive from Tuesday, November 29 until Monday, December 12. We are going to donate to a local food pantry at Abiding Love Lutheran Church. You can find more information about this organization at the link below:
http://www.abidinglove.org/tapestry_food_pantry.html
We are excited to have the opportunity to give back to our community. To make it even more exciting we are going to make this drive a grade level contest to see which grades can bring in the most cans and coats. The grade level winner receives a Popcorn Party/Extra Recess!
There will be a “can” gauge in the cafeteria that shows each classes’ weekly progress and who is in the lead. 1 can= 5 points. Let’s see how many cans we can collect here at Boone for a great cause!
Turn in your donated items to your student’s classroom teacher.
What food should I collect?
- healthy, non-perishable food
- items with intact, un-opened consumer or commercial packaging
- items with non-breakable packaging (no glass please)
- food within the expiration date on the packaging
What items do clients request most?
- peanut butter
- canned chicken breast or tuna
- canned beans
- canned low sodium vegetables

Safety Drills at Boone Elementary
At Boone Elementary, we take safety very seriously and practice drills and procedures every semester. Boone has a fire drill every month is accordance to district requirements. During a fire drill, the school is evacuated and procedures are followed to account for every adult and child. In the fall and spring semester, we also have a Shelter in Place drill to help us understand what we need to do to be safe during bad weather. Two other drills we practice every semester is the Reverse Evacuation drill which regulates movement from building to building and a Lock Down drill. To practice safely securing the building, all doors are secured and we account for every adult and child. We will be having a lock down drill on Thursday, December 15th at 8:30 am. We will alert all visitors to the drill and the campus will be closed during the drill.
