BMW - Believe. Motivate. Welcome.
I BELIEVE in the potential of every child.
I will be MOTIVATED by my why.
I will WELCOME each child with love.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for your amazing cooperation and support throughout this difficult school year, but especially during these past two weeks. I feel so lucky to be the Principal at B.M.Williams Primary. As we strengthened our security in response to the most recent school shooting, you responded with patience and understanding. I felt the same support and cooperation throughout the pandemic. You are an amazing community and I couldn't feel more grateful.
Providing a safe environment for your children and my staff is my number one job. I am constantly looking for ways to improve. If you see a problem, please communicate with me. I can't fix what I don't know is broken. Please remember that you MUST have a picture ID to enter the building for any reason - dropping off a student, picking up a student, eating lunch, etc. There are no exceptions. Additionally, you must be listed as a contact in the student's information in our system. We cross check your ID with the information that we have on file. If you are not asked for an ID before entering the door, please let me know. This is our first line of security. This is very important to me.
Crestwood Intermediate is hosting a Rising Third Grader Night on June 7th at 6:00-7:00. This is an opportunity to visit the school, meet the Principal, and some of the third grade teachers. I hope to see you there.
Please be mindful that the last day of school, June 16th is an early release day.
Report Cards will be uploaded to Parentvue on June 16th.
This is my last edition of the parent newsletter this year. It has been a pleasure to serve you and I look forward to continuing to be your Principal in 2022-2023 school year. Unfortunately, Mr. Sloan, Assistant Principal has been reassigned to Portlock Primary School for next year. He has been a huge asset to our building and will be missed by all of us.
Have a great summer!
Principal Brighid Gates

How do I register my student for the 2022-2023 school year?
All registrations for Chesapeake Public Schools are handled online. Parents wishing to register their student for the 2022-2023 school year at B.M. Williams Primary will need to first complete the Online Registration.
The Online Registration may be accessed from this link. From this page, parents will need to click on the link that says "Enroll a Student / Online Registration." Parents will need to create a ParentVUE account or use their existing ParentVUE account to complete the registration.
If parents encounter any difficulties with the Online Registration process, they are encouraged to come to B.M. Williams Primary on the designated days for "walk in" registrations (see below for more information).
What documents are required for registration?
- Student's Birth Certificate
- Your valid photo ID
- Student's Immunization & Physical Record (The physical has to be dated AFTER 9-6-2021 for Kindergarten)
- A complete copy of your utility bill (gas, water, or electric ONLY), showing usage within the last 30 days
- Please note the only proof of residency that can be accepted at the school is an electric, gas, or water bill that shows current usage in the parent's/guardian's name. If you do not have proof of residence in your name or you have a lease/mortgage closing statement, you will need to contact the Office of Student Enrollment and Attendance at 757-547-0545 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- IF APPLICABLE: custody orders or agreements in place for your student
- IF APPLICABLE: any 504 plan or IEP for your student
We are unable to process registrations when there is missing documentation. For quicker processing, please upload as many of the above-mentioned documents as possible when completing the Online Registration form on the Chesapeake Public Schools website.
We ask that documents not uploaded be submitted to the school via email to email@example.com. When submitting your documents, please include your students' name and grade in the subject of the email.
When should I register my student for the 2022-2023 school year?
For the 2021-2022 school year, we processed 300 new registrations during the month of August and into early September out of the 485 total new registrations for the entire school year. We strongly encourage parents to submit their registrations for the 2022-2023 school year before August 1, 2022. Please note: due to an increased volume, registrations submitted after August 1, 2022 will have a longer processing time. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Additionally, the Transportation office has an enrollment deadline of August 1; they are unable to guarantee transportation for the first week of school for any registration submitted and processed after that date.
For your convenience, B. M. Williams Primary will keep the following enrollment hours this summer beginning Tuesday July 5, 2022.
- Tuesdays for "WALK IN" registrations from 9:00am to 3:00pm
- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00am to 4:00pm, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
- Office closed on Fridays
We will have staff members on hand to assist with Online Registrations and copy documents on our Tuesday "walk in" registration days.
Enrollment appointments for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays may be made via phone at 757-547-0238. These appointments will be for general enrollment questions and copying of documents.
We ask that parents be prepared to bring all required documents to their "walk in" or scheduled appointment time.
New Student Screenings
B.M. Williams Primary performs reading assessment screenings on all new kindergarten students. We will begin new student screenings in July. Parents of kindergarten students may choose to bring their student with them on our Tuesday "walk in" registration days; otherwise, you will be contacted by the school to set up a screening appointment.
Preschool Application Window Now Open. The Chesapeake Preschool Initiative (CPI) Office is currently accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year! CPI is a FREE full-day program for children who will be four years old by September 30 and live in Chesapeake. The program is designed to give eligible children opportunities to create a firm educational foundation that can be used to achieve academic and social success. Acceptance into the program is determined on eligibility criteria and identified risk factors, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Risk factors include, but are not limited to; family income, level of parent/legal guardian education, housing concerns or homelessness, and special needs or disability. Applications are available on our district preschool page.
Reverse Mainstream Program
Reverse mainstream brings non-disabled children into preschool classes serving children with developmental delays. It allows a variety of children to learn and play together, builds self-esteem, develops acceptance of others, provides age-appropriate peer models, and includes age-appropriate activities. Employees of the Chesapeake Public Schools and residents of Chesapeake may enroll their 3- or 4-year old children in the program. Space is limited and tuition will be a flat fee based upon the days of attendance. Payment will be expected at the time of registration. In most cases, transportation is provided. If you are interested in this program, please contact Early Childhood Special Education teacher, Lori McCollum at 757-547-0238 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Supply Drop Off Day - Save the Date
September 1, 2022 is our supply drop off day - 8:00-10:00 and 12:00-2:00. This is a time for you to drop off supplies to your child's classroom and quickly meet your child's teacher. We will have an Open House night scheduled later in September - date to be determined. This will be a time to learn more about classroom expectations, homework, etc.
Principal Star Awards
At the end of each month, teachers select one student from their classrooms as their Principal Star. The Principal Star is a student who has been SOARing all month and following the behavior expectations in the classroom and other areas in the building. Principal stars are invited to a Principal Star party at the end of the month where they eat lunch with the Principal and/or Assistant Principals. They receive a treat, certificate, pencil and sticker.
Students selected as Principal Stars for May:
Happy Birthday! We love you!
Students are recognized on the morning announcements on the day of his/her birthday, and receives a birthday pencil and sticker from the Principal. Weekend birthdays are announced on the Monday following the weekend birthday. Please review the BMW Birthday Celebrations Procedures.
Summer birthdays are being recognized on the morning announcements each week.
