It was so good to see so many of you here to enjoy the Halloween Parade! Next week starts a new month, which brings about time to focus on gratitude. On behalf of the KSD staff, I want to thank you for entrusting your child(ren) to us and allowing us to be a part of their journey. It's truly an honor.
As the weather gets colder, we could you to find creative ways to allow your student to get outside, move and engage with the changing seasons.
Fall Time- Changing of Weather
The weather is getting cold soon so please send your kids to school with coat/jackets to keep them warm when they go outside for recess or for other activities that require them being outside.
OUTDOOR RECESS INFO:
Outdoor recess will be held if:
*Outside air temperature and/or wind chill is 25 degrees (F) or greater
*There is no falling precipitation
Limited outdoor recess will be held if:
*Outside air temperature and/or wind chill is between 19 degrees and 25 degrees (F)
*There is no falling precipitation
Indoor recess will be held if:
*Outside air temperature and/or wind chill is lower than 19 degrees (F) or there is falling precipitation.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
Red Ribbon Awareness Week
From October 23 to 31, schools around the nation celebrated the Red Ribbon Week®, the largest and longest-running annual campaign dedicated to drug prevention. Beyond spreading awareness on the dangers of drug and alcohol use, Red Ribbon Week also presents an excellent opportunity to teach students about the benefits of building lifelong healthy habits, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Here are five tips to get you inspired to teach these important lessons and empower your child(ren) to build brighter futures for themselves!

Kindergarteners brainstormed together to create a Halloween story using handshapes moving from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5. Enjoy their ghoulish story, and see if you can figure out what they are signing.
We had our Halloween Parade last Friday, October 29th.

Blood Drive at Kansas School for the Deaf
This is open to the public and will be held at Student Center (next to Foltz Gym).

Checking In and Out
We will have contactless student drop off and pick up. If your child is arriving to school after the start of school day, please call the office at 913-324-5861. A staff member will walk out and help get your child into the building.
If you are checking your child out for the day or for an appointment, please contact the office via email or call at 913-324-5861. We will have a staff member walk your child out to your car. If you are not able to call from the parking lot, please feel free to use the foyer doorbell to the office and we will bring your child to your vehicle.
