TTSD Community Newsletter
September 3, 2021
Good afternoon, TTSD families.
We are ready! Your principals, teachers, and all TTSD staff have been hard at work this week getting our buildings and our classrooms ready to welcome back our students. I have been out in our schools and the energy and excitement is contagious. After nearly 18 months, we look forward to having all our students back in our schools beginning next Wednesday.
I am profoundly proud of our TTSD staff from our facilities staff and custodial teams to our district office, teachers and school staff, and nutrition and transportation services. Everyone is keenly focused on bringing our students back into our schools safely. When you happen to see any of our staff members, please join me in letting them know how much they are appreciated.
Today’s message is full of reminders and last minute details as we head into next week. Most importantly, I start with asking each one of you to join us in making a commitment to doing whatever is necessary to keep our students in school. This is our collective priority and there are simple, and temporary, ways you can do your part. They include:
Get vaccinated. Make sure others in your household who are eligible get vaccinated.
Wear a mask in public indoor places and outdoors when you are around others outside your household. Wear a mask on public transportation. Students must wear masks on school transportation. And wear a mask if you are carpooling with individuals outside your household.
Please do not send your child to school if they are sick. Do not send your child to school if they are not vaccinated and have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
Limit gatherings with those outside your household.
Limit attending events where distancing and mask wearing is not enforced. If your child is involved with activities outside of school, please use extra caution to keep them safe and minimize the risk of infection.
Remember, these are important and temporary measures to keep our students in school. Please know, we will be navigating COVID in our schools. We are ready to quickly and responsibly manage these situations. Working together as a community to keep our students and staff safe will mitigate the impact on our classrooms and prevent the disruption to learning.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your schools with questions. We look forward to seeing you all next week.
Please enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday weekend.
Warmly,
Dr. Sue
As a reminder, please refer to the Oregon Department of Education’s K-12 Face Covering Rule regarding masking at school. You can find that information via this link.
Please refer to this resource (link) for proper mask wearing in schools.
Important information regarding accommodations: Every child who requires an accommodation related to face coverings due to their disability and/or medical circumstances should receive it. However, According to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) accommodations to face covering requirements should be rare and provided only as required by the unique needs that arise from a student's disability or medical circumstances. The vast majority of medical experts agree that face coverings “can be safely worn by all children 2 years of age and older, including the vast majority of children with underlying health conditions, with rare exception” (AAP, 2021).
A student must be eligible to receive support under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (or IDEA) before a team may determine whether and what accommodations are required. Under 34 CFR § 104.35, at the elementary and secondary school level, determining whether a child is a qualified disabled student under Section 504 begins with the evaluation process. Please contact your school counselor, if you believe your child has a disability and/or medical condition that would require an accommodation related to the face covering requirement.
Athletics
As we prioritize safety and work together to avoid any disruptions to keeping our students in-person in their classrooms, please follow all district guidance while on our campuses. Please note the following message that has been sent out from both Tigard and Tualatin High Schools regarding athletic events.
Masks are required for all coaches, spectators, and staff during indoor and outdoor athletic activities in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. As a community, we want to take every step possible to stay safe and make sure our student-athletes are able to continue to participate and enjoy their experiences. Furthermore, as we return to school next week, we want to make sure that our entire community does its part to stem the spread of COVID-19 so our doors remain open and our classrooms remain full of students. For more information, please see the attached athletic guidance from the OSAA. OSAA Guidance
Transportation
Reminder: All students and adults on school buses must be masked at all times. Please talk with your students about being safe and responsible while on the bus. The district will be practicing distancing as best possible on buses, however, we encourage families that are able to provide personal transportation for your student at this time to please do so.
Please be sure to visit the TTSD transportation page here for more information and specific details regarding bus routes.
