St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 7 | 8 JUNE 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are looking forward to celebrating the Feast of Saint Columba tomorrow, with the launch of the Bishop’s Lifelink Appeal and our Mission Games.
All students may wear free dress tomorrow (Friday 9 June). The Year 1 to 6 classes will begin the day with a St Columba’s Feast Day Mass in the Church.
Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 are encouraged to bring in spare change to play the Mission Game stalls organised by our Year 6 students during lunchtime. All proceeds raised from the event will go towards the Bishop’s Lifelink charities.
St Columba is the patron Saint of our parish and school. Along with St Patrick and St Brigid, he is one of Ireland’s three famous Saints. He was known for his kindness especially to children and animals and was instrumental in the establishment of many monasteries throughout Ireland and then later Scotland, where he became known as the Apostle of Scotland.
God bless and keep safe.
Allen McMahon
Principal

The goal for holding this dance group is to encourage fitness, strength, coordination, and confidence through dance movements.
Please fill in the form below only if this is something your child would be interested in.
Details are as follows:
Instructor: Miss Alice Komorowski
Time: 8:00-8:30am
Day: Tuesday mornings in Term 3 (commencing Week 2 and concluding Week 9)
All students are welcome and all abilities are catered for. The only prerequisite is a love of dance!
Please complete the below expression of interest by Friday, 16 June to allow us enough time to assess student interest and plan accordingly.
Please note this is not a registration but only an expression of interest at this stage.
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC)
The Department for Education Child protection in schools, early childhood education and care services policy states that ‘all children and young people in the department’s preschools and schools will access the approved child protection curriculum’.
Keeping Safe is the Child Protection Program that all CEWA schools follow.
The KS:CPC teaches children and young people to recognise abuse, tell a trusted adult, understand what is appropriate and inappropriate touching and ways of keeping themselves safe.
Themes
The curriculum is based on two main themes which are presented through topics and activities.
· Theme 1: We all have the right to be safe
· Theme 2: We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.
Focus Areas
The two themes are explored through four Focus Areas, which are examined in growing complexity in accordance with the age of the learners.
1. The right to be safe
2. Relationships
3. Recognising and reporting abuse
4. Protective strategies.
More information can be found on the KS:CPC website: http://tiny.cc/KSCPC-ParentCarerInfo.
