Halloween at Glen Grove School
The Glen Grove Halloween Parade will take place on Wednesday, October 31st at 12:55 PM. After returning from Pumpkin Caroling at the Abington Senior Center, our 4th graders will lead our school in the annual costume parade. We will exit the back doors of Glen Grove, snake around the grassy area behind the school and re-enter our building through the front doors. Parents are welcome to attend the parade. If you would like to be a spectator, please position yourself on the fields behind our school.
If it is raining on Halloween, the parade will be cancelled. Students will participate in a small, modified version of the parade in our gym for students ONLY, as it would be a very serious breech of fire department safety regulations if we were to have our entire student body and all of our guests in our gym at one time.
CLASSROOM PARTIES: The wonderful room parents of the Westbrook/Glen Grove PTA are busy eliciting volunteers to help organize the classroom Halloween parties. Please note the following:
In alignment with our other District 34 schools, there can be no more than eight room parents/volunteers who will attend classroom parties. We very much appreciate the room parents who plan these parties and organize the volunteers, and all of us want to ensure that our classrooms are not overcrowded and that the adults present are there to assist with activities and supervision. Please look for a communication from your room parent team regarding our Halloween parties in the near future, and be sure to sign up to assist with one of the fun activities that the room parents have planned. If you have not received a communication from your room parents, please feel free to reach out to your room parent team and express your desire to volunteer.
COSTUME INFORMATION: - To ensure our activities are safe and appropriate for the school setting please note the following:
- Avoid costumes portraying violent characters or monsters.
- NO weapons (real or look-alike) may be brought to school as part of a costume.
- Masks are NOT allowed.
- Aerosol containers are NOT allowed on school premises.
- Students are NOT allowed to wear costumes to school. They will change into their
costumes after lunch/recess and before the parade. - Students who require things like hair spray, make-up, hair color, etc. may have those
items pre-applied so they can be worn to school.
REMINDERS
PARKING - The parking lot at Glen Grove will not be able to accommodate all of our guests as we must keep our circular drive and loading zones completely free of vehicles during the school day and during dismissal. So, please consider walking or carpooling. Once our lot is full, you may park on neighboring side streets.
DISMISSAL- To avoid the congestion in the hallways that all of the extra bodies cause, guests are encouraged to be out of the building by 2:20 PM. You must exit through the FRONT doors, only.
SIGNING STUDENTS OUT BEFORE DISMISSAL – If you are taking your child home with you before dismissal, you must come through the front office with your child and drop off your name tag–a more efficient way of signing out. If you are taking your child with you at dismissal, there is no need to sign him/her out. Please just inform the classroom teacher that your child is leaving with you, especially if they normally ride the bus.
Finally, please note that to ensure the same level of safety on a party day that we expect in our schools every day of the year, we are asking that all adults who enter the building sign in through the front office and obtain a sticker identifying them as a volunteer.
Fall Festival For Students Who Do Not Celebrate Halloween
STUDENTS WHO DO NOT CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN - If your family does NOT celebrate Halloween, we want to encourage you to please send your child to school that day. All children will spend the morning engaged in typical learning activities followed by lunch. After lunch, students who do not celebrate Halloween will attend the Fall Festival in our Learning Center, where Mrs. Berichon, our drama teacher, will have activities planned that focus on the season of autumn with its emphasis on harvest and giving thanks. Please let us know if your child will be attending the Fall Festival by completing the form below and returning it to school with your child.

It is a great way to spend an evening with your family!
Global Read Aloud
The 2018 Global Read Aloud has begun and runs to November 9th. The GRA started in 2010 by teacher Pernille Ripp, not only is she a teacher but she is also an author of a few professional books including Passionate Learners- How to Engage and Empower Your Students. The GRA began with a simple goal in mind: one book to connect the world. It has grown from its humble beginnings to more than 2,000,000 students in 60 different countries.
Are you interested in volunteering? The Glen Grove library is looking for people to help shelve books, organize the Celebrating With Books program, decorate the window displays and other special activities. No experience necessary. We will teach you all you need to know to help in the library. Volunteer once a week or once a month, it’s up to you! We welcome any and all help that fits your schedule. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Funke, the librarian at lfunke@glenview34.org or call the school at 998-5030.
