Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy
Opening August 2020
Athletic Update
We are very excited to announce that the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy will offer a limited number of athletic programs upon opening in August 2020.
While additional recommendations are welcome, we are currently considering athletic programs such as Cross Country, Volleyball, Soccer, Lacrosse, Swimming, Golf, Tennis, and Dance. We also anticipate offering One Act Play, Esports, and Literary competition through GHSA. Final decisions will ultimately depend on student interest. Students will indicate the sports and activities they would like to participate in when they submit their applications in November 2019.
We will utilize various community fields and resources to support these programs. We are very grateful for the partnerships that will make this possible, including with Barrow County Leisure Services.
Students will not be able to participate in the athletic programs at Apalachee High School or Winder-Barrow High School since their school of attendance will become the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy.
Please direct any questions, concerns, or ideas you have about our athletic programs to Dr. Dale Simpson at dale.simpson@barrow.k12.ga.us.

Applications will be accepted for rising 8th-11th grade students.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will an 11th grade or 12th grade class be offered in the first year?
We will certainly accept applications from rising 11th grade students. However, to accommodate a junior class we would need a sufficient number of rising 11th grade students in order to offer the required classes. We encourage you to submit your application and we will inform you of the outcome (and tell your junior friends to do the same!). We will not offer a 12th grade class for the 2020-2021 school year.
Will an 8th grade class be offered in the first year?
Yes! An 8th grade class will be available for enrollment in the 2020-2021 school year. This is an extension of the Arts & Innovation Magnet program already in place at the Center for Innovative Teaching.
Will 8th grade students be able to participate in athletic programs?
We anticipate 8th grade students being able to participate in JV athletics and other activities at the new high school. Please note, the sports that will be available may be different than at the student's zoned middle school.
