Sammy Davis Jr
The Story of a Black Entertainer Overcoming Impossible Odds
As a Child...
Once there was a boy. And that boy´s name was Sammy Davis. His father was also Sammy Davis so the Sammy Davis we´re talking about today is Sammy Davis Jr. His first show was at the age of 3. He then grew up and began playing with his father and his band, the Will Manstin Trio.
"Being a star has made it possible for me to be insulted where the average Negro could never hope to get insulted"
After going solo he realized that segregation was all around him and so he became a major player in the struggle for black rights by segregating himself from venues that had African American prejudice. He also marched with all the marches organized by Martin Luther King Jr.
Settling Down
After he peaked he still tap danced but in much smaller venues. He married twice, once to the beautiful Swedish actress Mary Britt and the other time to Altivees Gore. He had one daughter and adopted 2 sons.
