Top 10 Things every Cryar Cat needs to know!
Students are only allowed to be walkers if they are walking to their front door. Students are not allowed to be pick up along the roadway as this is unsafe. Any transportation changes, must be emailed to cryartransportationchanges@conroeisd.net before 3:30. Students may not leave early after 3:30. The designated Cryar Car Rider Card, must be displayed in the windshield during pick up, or parents will have to come inside the building to show ID.
2. Attendance
Regular school attendance is essential for the student to make the most of his or her educationto benefit from teacher-led activities, to build each day’s learning on that of the previous day, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. If you must make appointments during the school day, please make them as late in the day as possible. Learning occurs until 4pm.
3. School Activities
The Texas legislature passed a new law clarifying the Texas Family Code provision that sets out the rights and duties of parents when there is a court order affecting the parent-child relationship. The legislature clarified that “school activities”, as that term is used in the Family Code, includes, “school lunches, performances, and field trips.” Prior to the passing of this law, each Texas school district determined what activities were considered “school activities.” In compliance with the new law, effective at the beginning of this school year, when lunch is open to visitors, either parent may attend school lunch with his or her child, regardless of their period of possession, unless attending lunch is specifically prohibited by a court order. All parents are welcome to attend school performances. Field trips are limited to parents selected to serve as chaperones.
4. Lost & Found
During the course of the school year, particularly during seasonal changes, students will discard jackets and other items. These items will be kept in designated "Lost and Found" area in the cafeteria. Items will be donated each 9 weeks. In order to avoid losing these items, please write your first and last name in your child's jackets and sweaters and on lunchboxes.
5.Cell Phone Policy
We recognize that cell phones have become a common tool for communication. However, they have also become a distraction to the learning environment and are vulnerable to theft. We ask that you allow your child to carry a cell phone only if absolutely necessary. Students are allowed to carry cell phones at school. However, phones must be turned off and stored in backpacks during school hours. Phones may not be used to talk, take pictures, play games, record or text during school hours. Failure to follow school rules will result in disciplinary consequences.
6. Cat Pride Parties
Each grading period students will be given the opportunity to participate in a school wide evening of fun that celebrates their achievements and good habits. If students have not had any referrals, they are eligible to attend the Cat Pride Party.
7. Cryar Cash
Daily, students will be given Cryar Cash for making excellent choices, exhibiting good character, and effort in class. Each grading period students will be given the opportunity to spend their Cryar Cash at the Cryar store for prizes.
8. Homework
Research shows that there is no evidence to demonstrate that homework benefits students below high school age. In fact, it has several drawbacks, intrusion into family time and after school activities as well as imposed stress. At Cryar, we believe the best use of a student's time after school is to read, practice their instrument, participate in extra curricular activities, play outside, and spend time with family.
9.Positivity Project
The Positivity Project is a school-wide guidance program with resources to help student build positive relationships. The program is a study of 26 character strength and the differences that we all have. It aims to foster better connections among people of all ages. Please look weekly for information about character strengths in the Cryar Cat News, emailed each Sunday.
10. Great Cat Rallies
Great Cat Rallies are essentially academic and character pep rallies that serve to celebrate the efforts of students during each grading period. The rallies are held during the school day. During the celebration, students get to cheer each other on as they win prizes, play games and earn awards!
