Staff Update
1/6/23
Remember to be Kind to yourself!
Greetings,
Beaumont will have a district leader learning walk February 2, 2023. Below you will find more information. We have a tentative draft schedule attached here.
Dr. Franco's Cadre Message
The 5th Virtual Cadres is on January 10th. All PAT members must attend a Cadre meeting during their staff meeting time today. As a reminder, the 12 Cadre meetings for the 2022-2023 school year will be virtual. It is expected that staff attend their virtual cadre meeting in their school building. The TPL website is updated with the virtual meeting links for each content area. Building leaders can find the materials from each cadre linked into the Professional Learning Pathways document the day after each cadre.
For the January 10th cadre, specific directions for K-5 general education, ELD, DLI, and Special Education teachers and 6-12 Special Education teachers is located on the the TPL Website. This information will also be emailed directly to all PAT members the morning of January 10th.
Please note if educators are joining from a common space/classroom in the school. Each educator needs to log on to their own device into the virtual cadre and mute themselves. This will help with capturing cadre attendance and active participation in the cadre.
If staff members are having difficulty accessing their cadre, a virtual help room will be available from 2:30 - 5:30 pm on December 13th. The link can be found on the TPL Website.
District Learning walk Process
Quarterly Learning Walk and Step Back Overview:
Purpose: Continued calibration around what grade level standards-aligned instruction looks like in action, progress monitoring implementation, increasing collaboration and reducing siloing of our work, and informing how we better support schools. These Learning Walk experiences are true for learning and continuous improvement of our system and are not evaluative.
Dates: 10/11-10/13, 2/1-2/3, 5/2-5/4 (calendar holds have been sent)
Who Participates: Instructional Framework Implementation Team, which includes representatives from OSP, OTL, OSSS, RAA, and RESJ (may also include some TOSAs in the Learning Walks to support DLI)
Draft Schedule:
Learning Walk would consist of the below activities and we would work with each school on a detailed schedule based on their schedule:
Morning overview with building leader/school leadership team
Classroom walkthroughs (observation tools overview)
Debrief/calibration time for observers and Lunch
Focus group with teachers
End-of-day debrief with building leader/school leadership team
Number of Schools: 24 Total - 8 each quarter - 4 on each Learning Walk Day
This will support keeping the walkthrough groups relatively small
Draft list of Schools:
Criteria:
A sampling of schools that includes a diverse representation of grade bands, SCI/TSI/Title, DLI programs, areas of the city, etc.
No schools with new Principals
No schools that had a TNTP Site Visit in the Spring
Each ASD has no more than one school each quarter
Tool that will be used for the process: Looking at indicator 1.1
Visitor: Retirement Planning (403B, Roths, IRAs)
Reminders
I want to thank everyone for all your hard work. I can't believe we are nearly halfway through the school year - WOW! I know things are crazy at times but I would like to provide the following general building-wide reminders:
- Family Outreach: If you have a student who is regularly coming to class late, leaving, and missing large portions of the course & is also not turning in work/has a C- or less, please be sure to reach out to families. It is always better to have more communication regarding academic and/or behavioral issues. As part of these more difficult communications, please find ways to share some of the positives you are seeing/experiencing with the student.
- Our school hours, for all PAT staff, are 8:30 am - 4:15 pm each day. We understand that things happen, and you might run a bit late or need to leave early on occasion. But we are seeing a significant number of staff leaving before 4:15 pm and many that are coming in after 8:30 am. If you need to adjust your schedule on any specific day and/or for longer durations to accommodate your individual or family needs, please meet with the Admin team so we can work that out with you.
- For safety reasons, we need all staff need to remain on the school grounds during the school day. If you need to leave to have lunch/run an errand, please check in at the main office so we can document the time you are gone. This is not for any other reason than safety. If an emergency happens, we need to have accountabilities for all students and staff.
