Early Release Drill
The district will be conducting an early release drill on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.
All schools will be dismissed 15 minutes early on Nov. 1. Students will take their regular buses, however they are scheduled to depart 15 minutes early. Please make alternate transportation arrangements for your child if necessary. Students being picked up from Barclay School will be called to the cafeteria at 3:00.
All after school activities are cancelled on Nov. 1. Evening programs and events may be held as scheduled after 5 p.m.
The early release drill is part of our ongoing safety efforts to ensure students and staff know how to respond in the event of an emergency.
Please contact the school if you have any questions about the details of the drill.
What Would You Do?
As a part of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Support System (PBIS) here at Barclay School, you may hear your child discuss some scenarios that we have gone over in class. The scenarios are called “What Would You Do?” and are based on things that may happen at school or in other places. They are meant to be an easy and effective way for students to decide how they would handle a similar situation.
Role-playing is highly memorable for most children, so we are hopeful that if a student comes across situations similar to these, they will feel equipped to handle the matter. Please find a few examples below:
1. You are playing a game with a classmate during recess and they win. What do you do? What do you say?
2. You are with your friend checking to see if your jacket is in the lost and found. You friend notices there are Pokémon cards in the lost and found. He doesn’t have any Pokémon cards so he takes them. What do you say to your friend? What would you do?
3. You are walking in line, and someone comes from behind you and shoves you into the wall. What would you do?
4. You are discussing your opinion in a group during class. You have given good reasons to back up your thoughts. One of your group members says your ideas are stupid and wrong. You thought they liked your ideas. What would you do?
5. A friend who sits at your group has asked you many times to borrow a pencil. Every time you let them, it seems to get lost. You feel like you should let them borrow the pencil, but you don’t want it to get lost. What would you do?
Feel free to practice any of these at home. As always, thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
The PBIS Team
