Family Matters: Mission of Love Adult Conference
Saturday, November 7, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Five Sullivan Brothers Center, Waterloo, IA, $40.00 per person, lunch included. Registration is now open!
Welcome to the website for the Archdiocese of Dubuque Adult Conference on the Family, Family Matters: Mission of Love. In the year of the World Synod on the Family, we are eager to take the message of the importance and beauty of the family to our families and parishes. This day has been designed to emphasize the Christian mission of the family–in all its forms and stages. We are excited to offer a stellar lineup of national speakers who will inspire us. We are pleased to offer interesting breakouts to address a variety of topics relating to family life. We are thankful to conclude the day with Mass, celebrated by Archbishops Michael Jackels. Please join us. Bring a friend. Be informed. Be inspired. Be equipped. Be sent out on this mission of love.
We need volunteers! Please consider volunteering for one hour of the day (we promise you won’t miss a thing!) by contacting Nancy Rigel: firstname.lastname@example.org
I wanted to remind parents that short season ended Thursday, October 15th. Your child will not be allowed to wear shorts until April 15th, unless we have a special attire day that allows shorts. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.
I wanted to share with parents a recent issue that occurred with photographs by parents in our building. A parent was in taking pictures of a classroom of an event and then went home and posted the photos on their personal Facebook page. There was nothing wrong with the photographs and in this case there were not students posted where the parents have requested that nothing went to the internet, but I am concerned. We are not going to stop parents at this time from coming in to take pictures of these special events, but we do need to ask that any photographs, videos, or other electronic images not be posted and only be used for the family albums and personal sharing. We have a list of the families do not want have images posted and so as a school we can screen our photos, but parents are not aware of these individual students and thus could inadvertently post a photo on the internet of a child that the family has requested no internet postings.
There are exceptions for public events that would include concerts, our pet blessing, Stations of the Cross, or sporting events when they enter middle school when posting is permissible. These events are exceptions and parents cannot expect privacy for these events that are in the open to the public. We do try to not post the photos of students that have requested no internet postings for these events when possible.
We love the excitement that you bring to these special days for our students and the classroom but need to respect privacy issues or we may need to adopt a policy of no photos in the building unless by school staff. I am sure that by the cooperation of our families we can meet the requests of all our families. Thank you for your assistance in this matter and if you are ever in doubt about what can be posted please call and I will help you with your questions.
Field Trip Lunches
Just to clarify our procedures for fieldtrip lunches. All students and chaperones are asked to take school sack lunches on a fieldtrip during the lunch hour. Unless your child has special dietary needs, then we ask you contact Tilda Thompson to let her know.
The preschool handbook includes the following information if a child has diarrhea, vomiting or fever. They should not return to school until they have been symptom free for 24 hours. We are asking kindergarten through fifth grade to also follow these guidelines. Thank you.
Diarrhea and Vomiting: If there is any diarrhea or vomiting, the child should not be brought to the Preschool. If the child has any loose stools or if the child vomits at the Preschool, he/she will be sent home. The child may return to the Preschool if he/she has been free from diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours. If there is diarrhea for several days, a physician should be notified.
Fever: If a child has a temperature of 100 degrees F. and/or exhibits any of the above conditions (diarrhea, vomiting, sore throat, etc), the child will be sent home.
We have several opportunities for you to sign up to help with upcoming events, bring food, etc. Please take the time to look at the following sign-ups and help where you are able.

My Co-Director, Jamie, and I would like to invite you to attend our "GLEE (Girls Learning and Experiencing Engineering) Day" on behalf of all the members of the Society of Women Engineers at ISU. Our goal as an outreach team is to connect and encourage younger girls to pursue a career in a STEM field through providing creative innovative activities lead by members of SWE. Girls between the ages of 3rd-8th grade are brought to campus to participate in science and engineering activities. The girls will also listen to a presentation lead by another engineering club on campus. This semester, our GLEE Day will take place on Saturday November 7th, from 9am-3pm in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union at Iowa State University. We are really looking forward to making this another meaningful successful event.
