Of Mice and Men

Counting Stars

The scene that fits the song is the scene where Lennie and George are sitting by the river in the beginning at night and they are talking about their future and how things might get better. The song fits this scene because in the song the lyrics say,

"Lately I've been losing sleep, dreaming about the things that we could be. And lately I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars we'll be counting stars."

"Take that money watch it burn. Sink in the river, the lessons I learned"

So it signifies that they don't want to be worried about money anymore and they just want to sit back and be free and live on their own farm house.

Count On Me

This song goes with the scene where George tells Lennie to stay with him instead of going to the mountains. In the song the lyrics say,

"You can count on me like 1,2,3, and I'll be there. And I know if I need it I can count on you like 4,3,2, and you'll be there. Cause thats what friends are supposed to do..."

"Find out what we're made of

When we are called to help our friends in need"

It signifies how George takes care of Lennie and sometimes Lennie helps George and they count on each other to keep each other safe. George prevents Lennie from getting into a lot of the trouble he could be getting into.

For the scene where they first meet Curley's wife, we chose Girls by the 1975.

The lyrics in the song that go with the scene are,

"Worrying about my brother finding out
What's the fun in doing what you're told?"

"I said, "Yo, I think you better go; I can't take you."

It signifies that she is going to be trouble for them and how she never is faithful to Curley and she is always looking at other guys. Curley is always telling her to stay in the house and out of the barn but she never listens.

The Arms of the Angels

The scene where Lennie gets shot by George we chose In the Arms of the Angels by Sarah McLachlan.

"It don't make no difference

Escaping one last time"

"It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness
Oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees"

The lyrics fit the scene because George is tired of running and knows Lennie will meet a worse fate if the men find him. He hates that he had to shoot him and is really upset by it.
