June 10 - Scholls Heights Knights

Parent/Guardian Newsletter

Principal Message

Dear Families,

I love working with the students, families, and staff of Scholls Heights. I am so appreciative to be a part of such a caring community. The school year did not end as any of us wanted, but we appreciate everything each of you have done to partner with us.

We hope that you have a summer filled with reading, journaling, story telling and writing, math, outdoor activities, building, creativity, and FUN! We hope that you and your family stay safe and healthy.

For those students and families that are moving on to middle school or new schools, you will be missed.

We hope that you are able to make our Parking Lot Parade tomorrow. We have no idea what to expect as, like many things this spring, this is new to us. Thank you in advance for your patience and grace.

Here is how we are hoping it will work. We have assigned each grade level a time with our 5th graders coming last. We know that you may need to come at a different time or have multiple children and that is fine. Our hope is to spread the traffic out.

You will make a right turn into our parking lot and a right turn out. Staff will be lined up, social distancing, ready to wish students a great end of school year and summer.

Please keep slowly moving and do not try to hand things from your car to staff. We need to keep the line moving.

Fifth grade students will pick up their yearbook as they exit the parking lot to the right.

Here are the suggested times:

Kinder 2:00-2:15

First 2:20-2:35

Second 2:40-2:55

Third 3:00-3:15

Fourth 3:20-3:35

3:40-3:55 (Time to catch up and prepare for 5th grade)

Fifth 3:55-4:25

Take care,

Mehreen Krueger

We would like to announce that one of our fabulous 5th Grade Teachers, Mehreen Krueger, is retiring. Mehreen has impacted the lives of countless students, families, and colleagues. Mehreen will be missed but we wish her all the best in retirement!

International Festival

We were not able to have the International Festival this year so our ELD teacher, Molly Anderson, worked with the help of some families to pilot an online version. We would like to invite you to go on a virtual field trip to learn about Syria. Here is the link: Syria

We are looking to highlight other countries. If you are willing to partner with Molly Anderson or other families, we would love to build this resource and educational experience. Please reach out to Molly (molly_anderson@beaverton.k12.or.us) if this is something you would like to work on. Molly does not work in the summer but would be available to partner with you next school year. However, please feel free to begin gathering resources this summer if you are interested.

A special thank you to the Kamal Family!

Summer Directory- Submit by June 19

We know the end of this school year comes with bittersweet feelings. Zoom calls have helped keep our kiddos connected when they can't be together in person. As those formal meetings end, PTO wants to help facilitate those connections over the summer. We have created a 'Summer Directory' that will give families contact information of peers (and parents) to help kids email, call or zoom each other over the summer if social distancing protocols require.

This Directory will be informal and only for this school year going into summer. Immediately in the fall we will send out another form that will be more formal for the 2020-2021 school year once teachers are assigned and kids can be grouped by class.

Filling this out is OPTIONAL! If you do fill out out then you consent for PTO to only include your information in a file that will be privately shared with other Scholls Heights families that have also filled out the form. If interested, please fill out this form by June 19.

Scholls Heights PTO Gala (Auction)

Thank you Scholls Heights Families, Friends, and Staff!

Our Online Auction was a wonderful success, raising over $3,000 for our school! Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, bid, and supported the event.

After cancelling our live event, we had auction items that would expire before next year's Gala. We didn't want to see them all go without use! The exciting news is that we kept many great items, packages and other donated items that would not expire, and plan to use them for next year's live and in person Gala! We will have so much to look forward to in 2021!

Save the date- Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Things to do from the Library

While there are no events in the library buildings this summer we do have lots of activities happening online, and in the community! Attached is our kids summer event flyer with everything going on online.

Looking for something to do outside? Our Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus scavenger hunt starts June 15 and runs all summer long! Would you like Scholls Heights to be part of the scavenger hunt? I’ll send you a Pigeon you can print and post on your school’s window for kids to find!

And for students looking for a challenge to do at home our librarians have created a new digital escape room each month for the summer.
