Principals Message
The 2019-2020 school year is off to a busy start as we are moving from summer to the beginning of fall. Staff and students are in the midst of exciting work in their classroom and fall sports are in full swing. 11th and 12th grade students had the chance to listen to Agnes Vertes on Wednesday morning share her story as a child survivor of the Holocaust. This was an amazing opportunity for our students. In closing, as the school year moves forward, please take the time to talk to your students about what they are learning in their classrooms. Our teachers are always available to talk if you have any questions or concerns about your child's academic progress. Should you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at everner@easthamptonct.org.

Library Happenings
The first two weeks were busy in the library! Freshmen, sophomore, and junior English classes participated in a scavenger hunt and created some book spine poetry as a way to get familiar with the newly genre-fied fiction section. English teachers and I book-talked dozens of titles, and students checked out their first independent reads of the year. Popular choices so far: current Nutmeg nominees (thanks, EH Public library for partnering with me to offer copies of these titles!) and anything by Karen McManus.
Civics students explored what it means to be a good digital citizen by learning how to read laterally when researching on websites; when we take the time to read like fact checkers, we can discover whether other sources corroborate information. Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Mansfield, and I asked students to consider what it means to be a good consumer and producer of information and to analyze the purpose behind digital information.
