Term 4 - Issue 15 21st October 2021
PRAYER
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Welcome to the first newsletter of Term 4! It's been a wonderful start to Term 4 and the children have made a very smooth transition to Summer uniform and the routines of school. It is an extremely busy term ahead so please take a few moments to read through the newsletter for some important information.
ST FRANCIS FEAST DAY
While St Francis' Feast day is celebrated on October 4, as a school community we celebrated this significant day on Friday. The weather was sensational and the day began with our whole school mass for St Francis of Assisi. Following this, the children enjoyed the Mission Fete, which raised some fantastic funds for Wheelchairs for Kids and our sister school overseas through SEEDS. The final part of the day saw some wonderful performances from a range of children who had auditioned for our annual St Francis' Got Talent. Year 2 student, Elora Guelfi took out the prize with a beautifully prepared violin piece. Congratulations to all the acts who auditioned and those who made it to the finals. It was a very appropriate way to end the day!
NEW CHILDREN & LEAVING FAMILIES
This term we welcomed Imani Brooks to 5B. Imani has a twin brother, Jenson, who began last term in 5W. Welcome Imani, we hope you enjoy our school community as much as we do!
Whilst we welcomed Imani, this week we will be farewelling a number of children as they move on to new adventures at new schools. Scarlett Mearns (5B), Elii Bowden (2B) and Oskar Bowden (KW) will be relocating to the country, while Paige (1B) and Leon Gilsenan (3W) are off on an interstate adventure. We wish all children well as they transition to a new school and hope they have enjoyed their time as members of our school community.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - WED 24th NOVEMBER
An early reminder to parents that our AGM will take place on Wed 24th November, 6pm in the hall. This annual meeting is an opportunity for the School Advisory Council to report back to our community on the progress and initiatives that have taken place across the 2021 school year. A report is presented by the School Advisory Council Chair, Treasurer and also our P&F Executive. Please note, any changes to school fees and classroom teachers are announced at this meeting. This year, the meeting will be approximately an hour and will conclude before 7pm.
In 2022, we will be electing two new members to the School Advisory Council (SAC). All parents are invited to nominate themselves to the SAC. Election is done through nominating and voting and membership to the council is for a period of 3 years. As per the Terms of Reference for School Advisory Council membership, conditions are:
(a) a commitment and desire to promote Catholic education and give service to the Catholic School Community;
(b) a commitment to the safety, wellbeing and pastoral care of all students and staff;
(c) an ability to work cooperatively and constructively with the Principal, school leadership team and all other members of the Advisory Council;
(d) the possession of skills, competencies and experience that are reflective of, relevant and beneficial to the Catholic School Community; and
(e) a sufficiency of time to devote to Advisory Council duties.
In 2022, the SAC will meet once per term. Should you wish to nominate yourself to one of the two positions available, please advise me via email mailto:jason.baker@cewa.edu.au
MUSIC TUITION 2022 - Year 3-6 children ONLY
On Friday 29th October, we are inviting parents of Year 3-6 interested in registering an expression of interest for music tuition in 2022. We have partnered with Musicorp to see if there is an appetite for our children to learn a variety of instruments. A letter will be sent home by Mr Cunniffe next week via SeeSaw, but if you are interested in looking at costs and registering, you can click on the QR Code in this newsletter.
YEAR 3-6 INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Good luck to all our competitors in the Interschool Athletics Carnival tomorrow. The weather looks great and the children are sure to enjoy the friendly competition. Unfortunately, I am part of an interview panel at another school and will be unable to attend but I wish them well in representing SFOA!
The T20 World Cup has started so that signals the start of a big summer of cricket! Good luck to the Aussies and hopefully the last trophy in the Australian Cricket cabinet can be filled.
Have a great fortnight ahead.
Best wishes

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
St Francis Feast Day
The feast of St Francis of Assisi falls on October 4 each year, so as a school community we come together to celebrate in the first week of Term 4. We started the day with a beautiful Mass celebrated by Fr Darek. Thank you to Fr Darek for celebrating with us, and also to the parents who were able to come join us, our beautiful choir and fabulous readers and altar servers. After recess we held the Mission Fete, and as always, it was a wonderful day due to the hard work of all the staff and parents. Thank you to everyone involved in making the Fete such a success and enabling the children to have a wonderful time experiencing the fun of the fete.
Benedict Feast Day
Benedict Faction Feast Day has changed date to Thursday 4 November. We will begin the day with a whole school liturgy in the hall, followed by fun team building challenges and games for all the children in Benedict. A reminder that Benedict students in Years 4-6 will visit Wheelchairs 4Kids to see the hard work Br Ollie and his amazing band of volunteers in preparing and making wheelchairs for children all over the world. Benedict students in PP-Year 6 will then enjoy a shared pizza lunch before returning to class after lunch play.
All Saints Day
From the first centuries after Christ, Christians who died a martyr’s death were considered saints, who live in God’s presence forever. Every year, on the anniversary of the martyrs’ deaths, Christians would visit their tombs and celebrate the Eucharist. This practice grew throughout the centuries to include remembering other outstanding Christians on the days they died. Soon the entire calendar was filled with memorials of the saints. In the ninth century, Pope Gregory IV designated November 1 as the day to remember all the saints living in God’s presence.
Term 4 Masses & Liturgies
As always parents, relatives and friends are welcome (and encouraged) to come to any of our school masses and liturgies. The children love to have you there celebrating with us. All Masses and liturgies will be celebrated in the school hall.
Mon 1 November. Feast of All Saints (Holy Day of Obligation) 1:40pm
Fri 19 November. St Francis of Assisi Official Opening 9:00am (finally)
Wed 8 December. Thanksgiving Graduation Mass 8:45am
Christmas Hamper Appeal
Our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal will take place again this year starting Monday 15 November and finishing on Friday 3 December. A list of items will be included in the next newsletter and also available on SEESAW. Hampers are distributed by St Vincent de Paul to help local families in need celebrate Christmas.
'While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart' - St Francis of Assisi
May God continue to bless us, each and every day!
