Annexation
Annexation is the process of legally adding land area to a city. Because annexation was huge back in the mid-eighteen hundreds, cities grew in a major way back then.
Metropolitan Government
Metropolitans were created to strengthen fragmented governments. There are two types of Metropolitans - Federations, and Consolidations of City and Country Development
Territorial gain throughout the years of the United States
Most of the land gained by the U.S. was from annexations.
Metropolitan GDP growth
Governments that are less fragmented have a greater GDP growth.
Total GDP growth for Metropolitans across the U.S.
Most Metropolitans are growing because they are stronger than fragmented governments.
