The Very Best
Lamar County Head Start 3 Year Old Classes 04/29/2021
Week 30 Thursday
Morning Circle 8:30-8:45
Unite: This week we will continue our 8th unit "Amazing Critters". This is a really fun unit learning all about bugs and other small critters. This week we will learn about critters that hop or jump such as grasshoppers, crickets, spiders and frogs. Our vocabulary words will be jumpers and hoppers.
Calm
Invite children to practice STAR breathing with a partner. Focus on belly breathing. On the inhale the belly will go out. On the exhale , the belly will go in. Practice this while the children are lying down with a small bean bag or stuffed animal on their belly. They can watch the object go up and down as they fill their belly with air and the relax and exhale.

THIS LITTLE CRICKET
"This little cricket sings songs so sweet, (hold up two fingers for antennae)
Listen closely to his calming beat, ( hold hand around ear)
His songs are never ever blue ( shake head no)
Especially when he sings for you" ( rest hand on partners shoulder)
Commitment
Remind children about the ways we keep our classroom safe ( walking feet, listening ears, gentle hands, big voice, sharing and helping hands ). Remind them that it is the teachers/parents job to keep them safe and their job to help keep everyone safe. Tell children that one way they can keep the classroom safe is to follow the commitments on our poster. Point to each icon and ask people to remind everyone what it means. Continue this discussion all week. Encourage children to select one of the commitments they are willing to follow and celebrate their success.
Morning Message
Write the sentence saying each word as you write. Place your hand under each word in the sentence as you say it and have the children read it with you. Point out that words move from left to right on the page. Introduce that words have space in between them and you can measure that space with your finger.
Say the sentence. Ask students to say the sentence with you. Encourage them to say it again, this time clapping their hands for each syllable. Check that children are clapping syllables and not words.
Introduce alliteration ( series of words that begin with the same sound)by repeating a tongue twister. Discuss similarities and differences in the uppercase and lowercase letters shapes(curves, lines angles). Call attention to punctuation marks and spacing between words.
Target Letters Gg, Cc, Rr, Ff, and Hh
From now on we will be reviewing all the letters in the alphabet.
Acknowledge the children whose names begin with the target letters. Ask these children to identify the letters in their names that they recognize.
Morning Message "Froghoppers hop long distances."
Complete the seesaw activity "Letter F Activities"
