WBMS Friday Notes
April 29- May 3
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
It’s May! WBMS is a busy place all year, but the last month is packed with extra excitement. This week we wrapped up End of Course testing for our 8th graders taking high school classes, experienced spring play day with our new WEB Leaders, and watched our butterflies appear from their chrysalises in 7th grade science. Our 6th and 7th graders geared up for next week’s Milestones, all Fine Arts students prepared for upcoming spring performing arts concerts, and our 8th grade parents transformed our cafeteria into a “Night in Paris” for the annual eighth grade dance. I look forward to oohing and ahhing tonight as our 8th graders appear not in their usual shorts, t shirts, and sweats but dressed to impress for the dance. I feel certain it will be a fabulous evening!
As always, I wish you and your family a weekend filled with joy and laughter!

Relay for Life
Please mark your calendar for May 11th from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the North Fulton Relay for Life event here at Webb Bridge Middle School. Come for the afternoon, evening, survivor’s walk, luminaria ceremony, or even just an hour and see why WBMS is proud of their participation in this year’s Relay and their Webb Way for a Cure team!
One week to go before the North Fulton Relay for Life event comes to our own Webb Bridge Middle School track! Are you ready to join us? Are you ready to support the American Cancer Society and assist the Relay for Life teams as they bring cancer awareness to our community and raise funds?
Our wonderful WBMS staff has been hard at work creating fundraisers and awareness for our students and their families. This week over 50 “Webb Way for a Cure” t-shirts were delivered by our student council, with proceeds going toward our Relay team. Our Jr. Beta members worked hard to create a “Pick a Number” board offering a prize for each $1 donation. P.E. classes in 6th and 7th grade took part in relay races as part of their Tuesday class activities, thereby promoting cancer awareness and support of the May 11th Relay. Students shouted “Bingo” on Thursday morning from the Media Center as they played one of their favorite games while support ACS. Our Media Center is sponsoring a Reading for Relay program where students find sponsors who will support and encourage their reading with a donation when they meet their reading goal. Students can register at https://tinyurl.com/ReadForRelay. Ms. Swartz’s Compass class created a coffee/donuts/fruit cart and shared their donated goods with the staff during Compass, all to raise funds for ACS. And we ended our week with “Hat Day” where students and staff chose a special hat to wear for a small donation to our cause. Yes, it was a busy and exciting week!
Luminarias will be available on our website until Tuesday. Here you can dedicate a bag In Memory of, In Support of, or In Honor of someone who has been touched by cancer. Bags may be purchased for $10 each through our team website at: https://tinyurl.com/WebbWayForACure.
Please mark your calendar for May 11th from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the North Fulton Relay for Life event here at Webb Bridge Middle School. Our school’s chorus, orchestra and band will be playing early in the day. Come for the afternoon, evening, survivor’s walk, luminaria ceremony, or even just an hour and see why WBMS is proud of their participation in this year’s Relay and their Webb Way for a Cure team!

FBLA
FBLA held its final general meeting of the school year on Friday in the Media Center. Our agenda included recognition to our LEAD award recipients. Earning the Bronze LEAD award was Rajeswari Anand, Aditi Gokhale, Sumukh Paspuleti, and Dhanvin Yajaman, and earning the Silver LEAD award were Sumukh Paspuleti and Kate Zurinskas. FBLA LEAD provides students with an individual opportunity to gain leadership skills and complete community service. Congratulations students!
Acknowledgement was given to those students who earned top FBLA points through their community service efforts and meeting attendance. We also recognized our current, hard-working Leadership Team. In addition, we gave a shout-out to Ronak Vyas, who will represent our chapter at the National Leadership Conference as he partakes in the Intro to Computer Science and Coding competition. Good luck, Ronak! We announced next year’s 2019-2020 FBLA Leadership Team: Dhanvin Yajaman as President, Rajeswari Anand and Dileep Kotireddy as co-Vice Presidents, and Ishaan Dhaneshwar as Historian. FBLA will be seeking additional Leadership Team members when we reconvene in August.
Our chapter has been busy promoting luminaria dedications in support of our Relay for Life team “Webb Way for a Cure.” If you are interested in dedicating a luminaria In Honor of, In Memory of, or In Support of a friend or family member who has been touched by cancer, please access our Relay team’s website at https://tinyurl.com/WebbWayForACure by May 7th, or ask an FBLA member for a luminaria form. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
We concluded our meeting with donuts and two lively games of Gimkit! prepared by our leadership duo of Kate Zurinskas and Dhanvin Yajaman. Wishing all our members a fantastic and safe summer vacation!

Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
Please help support Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, to raise money for crucial research that will bring us closer to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (IBD). Over 1.6 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases, and recent research unfortunately indicates the effected population could be nearly 2x that. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings this community together in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
Your donation will help fund local patient programs, as well as important research projects that will benefit patients and their families, wherever they reside. This cause is very important to us and we appreciate your help as we fight for cures! In addition to donating, you can join the fun at the walk June 1! There will be food, music and family activities.
Please use this link to join us on Walk day or contribute to our efforts to support CCF in finding a cure!

Save the date-The Cotillion of Alpharetta is coming January 2020!
We are excited to start our classes on Sunday, January 5 at The Metropolitan Club off Windward Parkway! Come have fun with us while learning dance and etiquette! Registration will open November 1.
This is not your grandmother’s cotillion! The Seventh Graders will learn basic ballroom dancing and popular dance (Shag, Swing, Free Style, Line and Slow), as well as many important social and professional skills the students will need to know now and throughout their lives. The Seventh Grade class will culminate in a Parents Showcase displaying the Program as parents observe all their child has learned. Students will also enjoy a 50's Party filled with games, contests, dancing and pizza!
For Eighth Graders, the classes will review the basics taught in year one, and the students will learn many new dances including Latin, Swing and Hustle. An extensive Table Manners segment will further develop your child’s social graces. Dating, interviews and making conversation will also be covered. The Eighth Grade Program will culminate in a Dinner Dance that brings all of the students’ new skills into practice. New students are always welcome in 8th grade.
You can expect your child to gain confidence in our classes, and learn how to greet, shake hands and converse with adults—an all-important skill as the dating years approach. They will also discuss social media etiquette! But most of all, your teen will have fun!
