WBMS Friday Notes

Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Being a fully engaged member of our school community is an important way for our children to feel a greater sense of belonging and connectedness. While I regularly see our students thriving in their classrooms, I know a critical aspect of a child’s well-being and happiness takes place outside of the classroom while they are involved in clubs, activities, and events. Although some of our usual events are currently on hold, there are still many opportunities for our students to engage in extracurriculars. This weekend, I urge you to ask your children to reflect and think about their passions outside of the classroom - to find their niches at the school. Several activities, clubs and events are included in each week’s Friday notes. For a complete list of our clubs, please click here: https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/11258
Additionally, another meaningful way for our students to express their passions and feel a sense of both pride and belonging, is through artistic expression. Each year, schools across the nation participate in a National PTA sponsored Arts Competition, Reflections, and this year’s theme is “I Matter Because….” Entry categories are: Film Production, Music Composition, Literature (writing and poetry), Photography, Dance Choreography, and Visual Arts (2D & 3D). A “Reflections drop bin” with entry forms inside has been placed outside our school. You can also access the instructions and entry form here. (Click https://www.georgiapta.org/reflections/reflections-submission-info#80-rules-and-forms). Entries are due Oct 16. Contact parent sponsor Julia Williams at julemorgan@hotmail.com with any questions.
Last year we had a record number of students participate and their work was phenomenal! Many students’ work went on to the county and state levels. So, this weekend, I encourage you to discuss outside activities with your child as we want them to flourish inside and outside of our classrooms!
Have a fabulous weekend, and continue to mask up, wash up, and back up, Jaguars!
In collaboration -
Rebecca Williams

Fall Reading Challenges
Webb Bridge WON the Ga Tech Buzzer Readers competition in 2019; do YOU want to be part of a repeat? We had the highest number of pages read for all middle schools in metro Atlanta who participated, first place seventh grade class (Ms. Boltz), and first place seventh grade student (Sophia L). Log the pages you’re reading on the Form in this Sway to help us “score” a win again! Do you like to earn badges? Complete the Fulton County Public Library Fall Reading Challenge by reading and listening to books and completing other activities. (Need books or magazines to read? We have info on how to get those, too!)
Banned Books Week ends on Saturday but we celebrate our Freedom to Read all year long!
Webb Bridge MS Library Media Center Services Fall Semester FAQ
Library Media Center print resources will be accessible for both in-school and remote learners during Fall semester, but access to our physical space will be restricted due to challenges with disinfection and contact tracing. We look forward (hopefully) to welcoming students in the space in 2021!
How will students check out books? Book checkout will be through curbside service outside for students who continue in remote learning and by delivery of books to ELA and reading classes and/or in the media center vestibule at specified times. Students may request specific titles via holds in Destiny (online catalog) and/or genres/categories of books through online forms for classroom delivery or pickup. (This will minimize handling of books and potential for viral spread in browsing. All books are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours when they are returned.)
Will classes be able to come to the media center? We will visit ELA and reading classes with carts of high-interest books for book talks and checkout. Class visits to the media center may begin in Phase V and will be scheduled to allow social distancing and cleaning between classes. (Mrs. Brown does have a second period Compass class so those students will be in the media center during that time.)
Will the media center be open before, during, after school or during lunch? Individual visits to the media center will be postponed until we establish contract tracing protocols in phase V. We do plan to offer book clubs and other programs virtually, dependent on other duties which may be assigned to media center staff during each phase.
What is the process for students to receive device help? FCS district IT directions are that technology help will continue through the IT Helpline (470-254-2300) and device hubs through phases III and IV. (The district has consolidated resources in these areas.) Teachers will be able to request password resets in our building and students will be directed to run Microsoft updates during homeroom time which should resolve many problems.
Questions? Please contact Nan Brown, WBMS Media Specialist, at brownnt@fultonschools.org
WBMS Media Center – at curbside!
Students may now check out books from the WBMS Media Center – at curbside! Locate and hold titles in Destiny Discover, then watch for an email from the Media Center that your books are ready. Pickup times are between 7:45 a.m. and 4 p.m. on school days outside the media center (traffic circle just past front office entrance). Dial 470-254-8755 and we will bring books to you outside. Books may be returned any time to the secure book drop just outside the media center. Please contact Ms. Brown at brownnt@fultonschools.org with any questions.
Announcing The Community Cupboard
Do you know a family in need at WBMS?
Please reach out to our counseling staff so we can find ways to help.
We are so happy to announce our new PTA and SGC initiative, the Community Cupboard. This will provide emergency necessities for families in our school experiencing hardship. Over the last 2 weeks our community has rallied behind this project and provided many school supplies so all children can start the year off on the right foot. Now we will work on stocking out cupboard with household items of need.
Please consider making a donation! Current needs can be found HERE. We also have an Amazon Wish List.
