Slaves Freed Themselves

Or did Lincoln? NO, the slaves did!

Slaves fought for their way to freedom through hard work and dedication. Slaves engaged in a dramatic movement of self-liberation while Abraham Lincoln refused to declare the destruction of slavery. Slaves had a large part in their own freedom due to escaping and fighting their own freedom. The slaves worked towards ending slavery in the United States.

Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln had insisted that he had no desire to abolish slavery where the institution already existed. Lincoln never intended to end slavery. He’s been raised to avoid it from childhood. Lincoln supported slaves to join the union army, he encouraged slaves to work for wages, and announced slaves are free in the rebellious states. Lincoln was willing to keep slavery intact if that was the best means in preserving the Union.
