Cohort 1 Teachers Take a Close Look at the Training Class Re-design!

This month we brought in a team of amazing teachers that participated in Cohort 1 and are all true trailblazers for Blackboard in their schools. Thanks to that helpful feedback, the training classes have been redesigned to:

  • Offer an elementary specific training course to help K-5 teachers see examples of classes built for elementary students

  • Begin by helping teachers develop a plan for how they will implement Blackboard with students and what content they will start building within Blackboard. Cohort 1 teachers are now a wonderful resource and assigned FCIT staff will be in your buildings on a regular basis to help

  • Share the workload! A peer teacher role has been added to allow teachers to copy, not edit or delete, content. This will be a useful feature for grade levels or departments who divide out the workload and then share the content with one another

  • Provide a streamlined course that is easier to navigate, less work, self-paced, and offers continuity to ease in understanding

  • Offer virtual, live demonstrations of what each unit covers and a corresponding step-by-step guide. Teachers will be able to ask questions during the live demo and the recordings will be archived in the training classes
  • Help teachers locate the Blackboard information they need and more via a Tips, Tricks, and Resources section of the class

374 Teachers in Cohort 2!

That's right, so far 374 teachers have signed up for Cohort 2 which will kick-off in early January. Your assigned District Instructional Technology Specialist will be contacting you to set up those meetings soon, if they haven't already done so.

Blackboard Planning: The Critical Role of the Principal and Leadership Staff

Please continue to have conversations with your Blackboard teams about what will work best for your school in terms of support and implementation plans. Some questions administrators have shared are; When should we plan to add students? What plans should we put in place to implement Blackboard with parents once students are accessing the classes? These are all conversations which can only take place among the teachers who are trained and your administrative teams. If you need further guidance, please contact Dr. Oatts or Kate.

Many schools have grade level teams or departments that have signed up for Cohort 2 in order to utilize common planning times or PLC meetings. Please reach out to your FCIT support staff if you need help guiding those conversations. We are happy to share our recommendations and what other schools are planning.

Administrators: Blackboard Training Classes are returning in January

Level 102 classes will be offered on three separate occasions.

Friday, January 22

Friday, January 29

Friday, February 5

The class will be a continuation of using the faculty organizations within Blackboard for communication purposes. Now that your Blackboard teams are trained and many of the same tools are used for organizations and classes, they will be a wonderful resource for you.

You can sign up via PDExpress.
