Halloween Schedule and Costume Guidelines
Parents/Guardians are invited to attend our Halloween Parade and Classroom Parties on Thursday, October 31:
- The Halloween Parade will begin at 2:00. Parents/Gueardians should plan on arriving at 1:45.
- The parade route will be determined by the weather as either indoor or outdoor.
- Where should parents watch it? The gym if indoors and the playground if outdoors.
- Classroom Parties will begin immediately following the parade.
- Parents may sign students out from the classroom beginning at 3:00.
- Students may wear Halloween costumes that are appropriate for an elementary school. No blood or gore.
- Face painting is allowed if the student is recognizable and the painting applies to the costume being worn (i.e. whiskers for a cat, nose for a clown).
- No weapons, including toy weapons, are allowed at school.
- Parents are encouraged to supervise their child's costume choice – keeping in mind that ultimately Murphy Elementary is a place of learning, safety and appropriateness.
- If a costume is determined by a staff member to be a disruption in the classroom, a possible safety hazard, or inappropriate the student will be asked to change or modify the costume.
- The administration reserves the right to address students with inappropriate costumes to either change or determine other possible solutions.

Schools are required to have written student selection criteria used “on an ongoing basis to prioritize students to be served” for MTSS. Lapeer Community Schools has developed plans at the elementary and secondary levels that have identification criteria for Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for different subject areas, as well as student behavior.
