NEW! Learning Options for 2021-22 School Year
On March 25 and 30, 2021, representatives from the Poway Unified School District held an informational webinar describing in detail the learning options that will be available for our students starting Fall 2021. Please click the following link to find specific information, videos, and a recording of the events held in the previous weeks regarding these options.
Poway Unified - Enrollment and Continuing Student Registration Information (powayusd.com)
In summary, PUSD will be offering three different learning options for the 2021-22 school year:
Full-Day In-Person Instruction (Five days per week)
Connect Academy Virtual School (6-8) Middle School Only
Poway Virtual Courses PVC (9-12) High School Only
New Directions Independent Study (6-12)
As part of the Enrollment and/or Continuing Student Registration Process, parents/guardians will be asked to select which option they are interested in for their student. If your student is interested in participating in Poway Virtual Courses, you will need to complete the PVC Course Request Form by April 23, 2021. If you have questions, please review the information provided on our website and if your questions have not been answered, then email your student’s counselor or administrator.
NEW! 4 Days Per Week for In-Person Students
NEW! Two Lunch Periods Begins April 19 for ALL Students
To accommodate the increased number of students on campus each day, we will have two lunch periods each day (same as a traditional year). This shift has very little impact on the current schedule. The students will either attend period 4 lunch or period 5 lunch. Students with period 5 lunch will want to get into habit of eating a snack in the morning!
Which one do they have? It is marked on their schedule in Synergy:
Period 4 lunch 11:15-11:57: all 8th graders and half of the 7th graders.
Period 5 lunch 12:03-12:45: all the 6th graders and half of the 7th graders.
Teachers will remind students throughout this coming week about the change so that they know and are ready for April 19. This includes virtual students!
NEW! PE classes are shifting to all virtual or all in-person
Volunteers Needed
Thank you to the parents who volunteered this past week. Your help was much appreciated.
NEW! Attention 7th Graders
Eagle Shout Outs
NEW! National Library Week
April 4th-10th is National Library Week. April 6th is National Library Workers' Day. To help us celebrate, please consider donating a gift card from a bookstore to the library. We will use it towards buying books for our students to use in the library. Virtual students may drop off gift cards to the office. In person students may drop off at the library.
STUDIES SHOW:
1. Students benefit from library instruction in their initial coursework.
2. Library use increases student success.
3. Collaborative academic programs and services involving the library enhance student learning.
4. Information literacy instruction strengthens general education outcomes.
5. Library research consultations boost student learning.
For more information, see this week's library newsletter.
NEW! Spring Food Drive
Mesa Verde is holding a Spring Food Drive on Tuesday, April 6. Food Donation crate will be located outside the Administration office on Monday and Tuesday next week and at both entrance gates Tuesday morning, and in the 6th grade lot after school.
NEW! PTSA Open Positions 2021-22
Your Mesa Verde PTSA Needs You!
Our annual PTSA Association Meeting, where we hope to elect the board for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year will take place next week on Wednesday, April 7th.
Without the support of volunteers, we will be forced to disband the PTSA at Mesa Verde. This will jeopardize continuing school programs, such as: Reflections Art Program, Staff Appreciation Week, Welcome Back to School events, Parent Programs, Scholastic Book Fair, and much more.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
If you have questions about our elections or would like to run for an office, please contact me directly. Note: Should you not want to take on a board position, but would still like to be involved, we are looking for an individual to chair our Hospitality committee.
Thank you in advance for getting involved, helping us to keep our PTSA active – and supporting Mesa Verde!
