I hope you and your family have enjoyed a safe, healthy and relaxing summer. As we approach the 2021-2022 school year, we are looking forward to helping each and every student have a positive beginning. Specifically, we are focused on supporting all student’s transition back to a full day, in-person schedule. For that reason, we hope the following information will help you and your child feel confident and well prepared for the first day of school.
ACCESSING STUDENT SCHEDULES
Starting today, you will be able to access your child’s full schedule by logging into Genesis (Genesis Parent Portable Link). Your username is your email address. If necessary, there is an option to click "Forgot Password". Select "Tech Support" for assistance with any additional login difficulty.
Please understand that a great deal of time and effort has been invested into student scheduling. We are extremely thoughtful about placing students in situations where they are most likely to find comfort and success. In fairness to all, the school cannot honor any requests for schedule changes at this time. Inevitably, some students will be excited about a specific teacher or happy to find multiple friends in some of their classes. Still, others may wish their schedule were different. Regardless, I encourage you to help your child to be positive about the beginning of school, as this is always the most effective approach.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
The first day of school is Thursday, September 2nd. All classes will commence at 8:03 am. As always, students are permitted to enter the building starting at 7:30 am. Please see the instructions below indicating where your child should report upon their arrival. It is important to note, especially for our incoming sixth graders, we will have maximum personnel positioned to assist students in finding their way.
For Students Arriving Between 7:30 - 7:55 am
6th Grade: Multi-Purpose Room
7th Grade: Gymnasium
8th Grade: Auditorium
Where Do I Start My Day?
All students will start the first day of school in their Academic Support Period. We strongly encourage you to print your child's schedule or write down his/her Academic Support teacher and bring it to school on the first. Of course, if a student forgets, we will be there to assist.
Students Arriving Late (after 8:03 am)
Students arriving late should report to the Student Services Office to sign-in. We will excuse all tardiness during the first two weeks of school as families settle into their morning routine.
The First Day is a Half Day -(12:20 pm dismissal)
As in the past, the first day of school is a half-day. There are no lunch periods and bus transportation will run accordingly. You can find this year's school calendar by using the following link: 2021-2022 School Calendar.

Unlike last year, we will not be requiring students to enter at locations designated by grade. Rather, we will return to using our two main entrance as described below. For security purposes, only these entrances may be used, as they are staffed with supervision.

Student Services Entrance
This is the bank of doors adjacent to the flagpole in the circular drive.
This is the entrance nearest to the auditorium and adjacent to the gym.
7th GRADE MATH PLACEMENT
All seventh grade students have been placed into one of two math courses. The courses appear on the student’s schedule as Math 7 or Math 7A. The latter course title (Math 7A) represents an accelerated curriculum. While the textbook and resources used in the two courses are identical, the application and depth of concepts will be more rigorous in the accelerated placement. The students were placed using a comprehensive and varied criteria. This includes assessment of their ability and recent performance, their sixth grade teacher’s input, standardized test scores, and their overall marking period grades. If you have any questions about your child’s math placement or about the process used to make the determination, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to discuss the placement in detail with you.
This year, we will resume the practice of issuing lockers (7th/8th grade) and cubbies (6th grade) to all students. However, in the interest of managing hallway congestion, students will be given guidelines on when they may visit their locker. Our 7th and 8th graders can find their locker number and combination in the upper right hand corner of their schedule (in Bell View).
As we reinstate our lunch/recess periods, there will be some noticeable adjustments. While our students traditionally have lunch and recess as a whole grade together, this year they will be divided into two groups (by alphabet or academic support class). This will allow us to provide students with approximately three feet of distancing while they unmask and eat. More information on PTO sponsored lunch options will follow.
Cavallini Back-to-School Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 30th, at 7:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from your child’s teachers about the exciting year ahead. Back-to-School Night is currently scheduled as an in-person event. We hope to see everyone in attendance!
THE CASE FOR OPTIMISM
Most of us imagined September would be an unmitigated return to normalcy. While our current situation is partly disappointing, our re-opening also represents a step in an encouraging direction. We are excited to have the students returning on a full-day basis with the prospect of significantly less interruption. We are also happy to see the return of recess (which offers large group socialization) and the re-instatement of all in-person clubs, sports and activities. It is my hope, over the course of the year, we will be able to shed even more safety measures. So, let’s consider "the glass half full" and rally around a great start to the school year!
