Cardinal Connections - Families
April 20, 2020
Dear, CVE Families!
I hope this email finds everyone safe and healthy. We will transition this week to our new remote learning plan. I am attaching a link to a few activities that are similar to our previous learning format Weekly At Home Activities. Moving forward, though, on Wednesday, April 22nd, our district will officially launch Schoology as our platform for online learning. The new plan not only complies with Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order, but it also takes into consideration that our students, families, and staff members are diligently trying to navigate a new normal.
Remote Learning for Students
Our staff has been collaborating and learning a new online learning plan to ensure that every student continues to receive quality instruction during this mandated school closure. The expectation is that every student will participate and be engaged in their lessons. Staying connected and continuing to learn during this time will be crucial for future success as students prepare to advance to the next grade level. Although online learning will never take the place of an engaging, interactive classroom experience, our goal is for every student to continue to advance their skills, in order to attain confidence and readiness for the next school year.
We understand that families are navigating several responsibilities at home while trying to provide an optimal learning environment. The new plan focuses on flexible learning and engagement, not on grading or right versus wrong. From now until the school year ends, teachers will be monitoring the progress of their students. Although students will not receive letter grades on assignments, they will receive feedback reflecting their level of engagement and dedication to the work being completed.
We suggest families establish a reasonable daily schedule so that students can engage as much as possible in their learning, ask questions, and communicate hardships as the need arises. This online platform will make it easier for teachers to work directly with their students. Teachers will also communicate office hours so students and/or families can ask for support.
How Will My Child Receive Their Online Learning?
We will be using Schoology to communicate assignments to parents and students. Teachers will upload assignments and activities and monitor their emails for any questions. Until our new learning platform begins, students will continue to receive assignments as they have been during the last three weeks from their building principal. How Does my Child Access Schoology?
On Tuesday, you will receive a secure email with instructions to access Schoology beginning Wednesday, April 22nd. The email will also contain your child’s username and password.
As we move forward during this unprecedented time, I hope that you and your family stay safe and well. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your child’s learning. Our staff is committed to work with families and to smoothly transition to this current reality.
Yours in Education,
Niyoka Wright
