Morton Ranch Elementary Book Fair Permission Slip
Parents & Students,
Curating a love of reading is important to educators and families in Katy ISD. Campuses host book fairs to encourage the love of reading and build excitement around literacy. It is important for parents to assist their child in selecting books that garner student interest and engagement in reading. Participation in the book fair is voluntary, and parents must opt-in students in order for them to purchase books and other items included in the book fair.
Please note: Students are not required to attend or purchase books/items from the book fair. The book fair may also include books available for purchase; however, the books are not currently within the Katy ISD library circulation inventory.
If your child will participate in the upcoming Morton Ranch Elementary book fair, please ensure your child returns this permission form to his/her homeroom teacher. Forms will be sent home with students on Tuesday, January 30th. Please reach out to your child's teacher should you need an additional copy.
Please note the dates and times of the spring book fair – February 5-9, 2024.
The following Scholastic Book Fair link is provided for parent convenience and review of all books and other items included in the spring book fair. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/mortonranchelementaryschool1
The books and other items available for purchase at the book fair may not have been reviewed by Katy ISD personnel prior to inclusion in the book fair. Inclusion in the book fair does not constitute an endorsement or approval by Katy ISD of any of the products, services, or opinions of the corporation, organization, or individual.
Katy ISD is committed to building a strong foundation and love of reading though independent reading programs hosted by our campuses. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or librarian with questions regarding participation in the book fair hosted by your child’s campus.

Attention Parents/Guardians of current 4th-12th grade students:
Senate Bill 2050
Senate Bill 2050, passed during the 87th legislative session, requires school districts to collect information annually through student surveys on bullying/cyberbullying and use the survey results to develop action plans to address student concerns. All Katy ISD students in 4th-12th grade are invited to participate in an online survey administered by K12 Insight.
K12 Insight manages online surveys for school districts nationwide, safeguarding the confidentiality of participants’ responses. Students will be prompted to enter their student ID numbers solely to verify student participation by campus and grade level in an effort to maintain data integrity. K12 Insight will not provide Katy ISD or any outside party with data that connects a participant to his or her survey responses.
Campuses will communicate their specific timeline for students to complete the required survey before it opens on February 20, 2024.
Parents may opt their child out of participation by logging in to MyKaty and selecting the KISD Option Portal icon.
The opt-out deadline is February 9, 2024.
Parents with questions about the student survey or who wish to provide feedback are encouraged to email studentsurvey@katyisd.org.
Parents and guardians of incoming 6th graders are invited to learn about the course selection process and meet the Morton Ranch Junior High family.
The intended date was rescheduled as all Katy ISD campuses were closed due to the freezing temperatures on January 16th. Thank you for your flexibility and we hope to see you and your families on February 1st.

Our Spring semester is in full swing! Our students are learning and working hard! However, we continue to see a large amount of students arriving late to school each and every day.
Please remember to have students ready for a day of learning. Students that arrive after 8:10 must enter through the front office with an adult. Our Mavs should arrive between 7:50-8:10.
Our Mavs are expected to be in their seats ready to learn no later than 8:10.
Arriving on time allows students to acclimate themselves to the school environment before lessons commence. This transition period allows them to mentally prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. When students are punctual, they are more likely to enter the classroom with a clear and open mind, ready to absorb information and engage actively in the day’s curriculum.
REMINDERS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS: FREE BREAKFAST & LUNCH at MRE
We would like to remind both NEW and returning families that breakfast and lunch are FREE at our campus. Although students are not required to eat breakfast at school, this is great option for many families! Our doors open at 7:50 a.m. and breakfast doors close at 8:10 a.m. We have lots of staff members helping students throughout the hallway directing them to the cafeteria or to their classrooms.
*Any extra items are considered ala carte and must be paid for.
