Book Fair!

We will have a book fair in the media center February 8-12th. This is a great opportunity to purchase books for your home library, and even great gifts for friends and family!

Math Topics:

3.NF.1 Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b.

I Can:

I can identify and create fractional parts of a whole in a model and a number line.

What will we learn?

This standard refers to the sharing of a whole being partitioned. Fraction models in third grade include only area (parts of a whole) models (circles, rectangles, squares) and number lines.

We will start with unit fractions (fraction with numerator 1), which are formed by partitioning a whole into equal parts and reasoning about one part of a whole.

RL 3.5 - Analyze the structure of texts, including specific sentences, paragraphs, and larger portions of the text.

RL 3.9 - Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.

I Can:

I can compare and contrast poems and dramas.

What Will We Learn?

Students will be learning about the literary elements of poems and dramas in this unit, They will also learn to identify, analyze and evaluate the author's voice (mood and tone).

3.E.1 - Recognize the major components and patterns observed in the earth/sun/moon system.

I can describe and identify parts of the solar system.

What Will We Learn?

We live on a planet that is part of a solar system. Our solar system includes a star and planets, and other objects. The planets and other objects revolve around the star. In our solar system, Earth is the third planet from the sun.
