Principal's Corner
Dear Trailblazers,
It is hard to believe that the 1st quarter is quickly coming to an end on Friday, 11/2. It has been great this school year seeing everyone coming in to partner with your child’s teacher to establish a strong, successful, school year. It’s not too late if you haven’t signed up for your Fall Parent-Teacher conference. A strong home to school connection is one of the strongest methods to ensure school success for your child. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Discovery Elementary at (571) 252-2370 for further assistance.
Did you know that one in five school-aged children report being bullied? On Tuesday, 10/24 it was incredible to see all the students and staff wearing orange to promote Unity Day. This day, as a school and nation, we come together to show a unified and collective message that we value each and every student in our school and bullying will not be tolerated. I hope you will take a moment to talk to your child(ren) about the strategies and ideas they are learning and how we all can be proactive to prevent bullying. First, remind your child(ren) to treat everyone with respect. Second, encourage your child(ren) to stand up against bullying. All students have the power to talk to a trusted adult and to let them know that bad things may be occurring. Third, encourage your child(ren) to display a kind gesture to a student that may be having difficulty with friendships. Finally, bullying often doesn’t always happen in person and is can appear on social media platforms. Remind your child that there are always ways they can protect themselves. Students should never share passwords with friends and they should not share any online information with strangers. Your child(ren) should go immediately to an adult if they see anything online that makes them scared or sad. For additional information regarding bullying strategies, please refer to stopbullying.gov . We hope that together we can continue to build a school and community that values acceptance, inclusion, and respect!
Your Principal,
Chris Painter

We are having an outreach project in conjunction with Fitwize4kids in Ashburn. Discovery Elementary will be collecting nonperishable foods to support Loudoun Hunger for the Thanksgiving holiday. This collection will end on October 30.
Please consider donating: stuffing mix, canned vegetables, boxed potatoes, gravy (jar or mix), cornbread or biscuit mix, cranberry sauce, dessert mix or item, and/or a $10 grocery card for turkey. Look for boxes in the front foyer to drop off your donations.
Thank you in advance for supporting our community!

Attention 5th Grade Parents
For the last two years, Discovery Elementary in collaboration with Discovery’s PTO established Math Enrichment opportunities for our students. The students that participated were extremely successful and Discovery is very excited to build upon our accomplishments. Discovery has received 3rd place the last 2 years at Loudoun’s Math tournament.
The Math club class started last Thursday, 10/25. Seats are still open and if you are interested, in pursuing this opportunity for your children this school year, please reach out to our coach Mr. Vinajmuri @ thevinjamuris@gmail.com
Lost & Found
Has your child lost a lunch box? Their jacket or water bottle? The Lost and Found area is located right outside of the cafeteria. All items will be donated at the end of each month to a local charity.
Please label your child’s belongings; it’s the best way to be sure it gets found or returned quickly.
