Fr. Erickson's Homily for the kids Easter Wednesday

A Note From Our Preschool Director Mrs. Kristen Thomas

5 Tips for Distance Learning Now That the “Dust” Has Settled:

  1. Look to God For Guidance & Gratitude – whether you set aside time to pray, watch daily mass on Transfiguration’s Youtube channel or learn how to make silence like the children do in Catechesis of the Good Shephard (CGS) we have to carve out time to hear the ways God is speaking to our hearts and comforting us in these uncertain times.
  2. Tweak Your Routine – now that we’ve been doing this for a few weeks you know what’s working and what’s not! Celebrate the small victories and trust yourself to be in charge of changing things that are giving you or your family members strife.
  3. Get Outside Daily – we all need large muscle movement, Vitamin D and fresh air! It’s important for our physical and mental health!
  4. Unplug! – we are using technology for all aspects of our lives right now - school, work, social connection and our extra-curricular activities. We all need to find ways to PLAY that don’t involve screens. Games, crafts, DIY projects, reading actual books…the list is lengthy.
  5. Incorporate Corporal Works of Mercy – this uncertain time provides us great opportunity to write letters to those we can’t visit, make telephone calls to grandparents that might need a hello and bake/craft things that could be dropped on doorsteps with a wave (6 feet away). Let’s model for our kids what it really looks like to be a Christian Disciple and be the hands and feet of Jesus!

Happy Birthday to all our students celebrating in April!

Preschool Teacher Mrs. Yerke

1 – Where did you set up your Distance Learning space at home?

In my office upstairs, while my kids work in our dining room downstairs.

2 – What have you enjoyed about working from home?

Taking my lunch break when I want to, and being able to have 3 meals a day with my family.

3 – What piece of advice do you have for students or families during this time?

Focus on all the positives, including during your prayer time. It is just as important to thank God for all of his blessings as it is to request help from him through these tough times.

4 – Any fun or interesting stories you can share about experiences you have had during this social distancing era?

My kids go outside almost everyday and exercise, play games, and enjoy the weather. My one son has to log in what he sees when he is outside on his walks. The other day, he said he saw a crow, a robin, sheep, and a monster! I asked him if that was make believe and he said that I was the monster.

5 - Anything else?

I would like to add that I really miss being at school with all of the kids, and really appreciate the time we get to talk each week.

3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Dorr

1 – Where did you set up your Distance Learning space at home?

My dining room table, which gets filled with sunlight throughout the day and has lots of room for books and materials!

2 – What have you enjoyed about working from home?

This is a difficult question because I miss being at school and being with the students and my coworkers. My house is so quiet! One positive is that it’s been nice to have my husband work from home, we've never worked in the same office / location. We enjoy eating lunch together and sharing how our morning went.

3 – What piece of advice do you have for students or families during this time?

Enjoy this time together. Stay home and stay safe. Please let the teacher know if you are having any difficulties with the assignments or need anything. Don't forget to practice your math facts and read for fun every day!

4 – Any fun or interesting stories you can share about experiences you have had during this social distancing era?

I thought I was smart putting in a grocery order for pickup until I realized that my pickup date was two and half weeks later!

5 - Anything else?

One of the many things I love about the Transfiguration community is that we are always here for one another. Although we are all apart, we are still together and can reach out to one another.

Middle School Teacher Mrs. Hernandez

1 – Where did you set up your Distance Learning space at home?

The comfort of my couch, with the blanket my 8th graders gave me for Christmas.

2 – What have you enjoyed about working from home?

Doing housework throughout the day so there isn’t so much for the weekends.

Super easy access to coffee and creamer---and TOO many treats!

3 – What piece of advice do you have for students or families during this time?

Make a paper to-do list of the new activities. Add them to previous days’ lists if you need to. Then it feels so good to cross things off as you do them!! Also, keep up the good communication with teachers when things get frustrating.

4 – Any fun or interesting stories you can share about experiences you have had during this social distancing era?

Having the principal come to my house just to say hi. Also, amazingly, it’s so awesome to have all my kids at home at the same time doing the same things (sort of).

5 - Anything else?

My cat seems to think we’re infringing on his alone time. But he also likes to “help” me do my work .
