August 29, 2014
Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Dear Steiner Ranch 3rd Grade Families,
We want to extend a huge thank you for a successful Meet the Teacher Night and a wonderful first week back! We all are incredibly overwhelmed by all of the Wish List items and classroom supplies that are being sent in by your kiddos everyday! Thank you so much! We are off to a wonderful start. We are very excited and enthusiastic about teaching your child this year in third grade. It's in your child’s best interest that we all work together in regard to his/her education. Thus, we will be asking for your help and support throughout the year. Our team newsletter will be sent out once a week with upcoming events, important reminders, and weekly academic content. If you wish not to receive this update, please unsubscribe down below. We look forward to having a successful year with you and your child!

HOMEWORK SCHEDULE AND PLANNERS
To keep you, your child, and ourselves as organized as possible, we will have a consistent homework schedule every week. Homework will be assigned on Monday and should take approximately 30 minutes per night to complete and return on Friday. Assignments will be written in their planner. Homework and planners are kept in a green plastic folder.
Behavior
The past week your children have been practicing Seiner Basics and SRE (Safe, Responsible and Encouraging) Basics in the classroom and throughout the school. As a school, we will continue to encourage LISD's ten ethical behavior principals and pink slips will be awarded. To support our NEW personal finance literacy curriculum, your children have the opportunity to earn play money for behavior and class jobs. They spend money earned on treasure box items. Any treasure box items you send in are greatly appreciated, as this is one of their favorite days!
Language Arts
Scholastic Reading Club orders can be made on line with our Class Code M34MK
Math
We will build our math community and explore positive learning behaviors. We will generate a variety of ways to sort class data using people glyphs and bar graphs.
We will introduce key multiplication concepts and review addition facts and strategies.
Science
We will learn that forces cause change and that energy exists in many forms. We will explore different forms of energy.
Spelling
We will focus on the basic of cursive!
Spelling words will start next week.
