Keeping Sickness Away!
Do you REALLY know how to keep from getting sick?
Where are germs?
Germs are about, well, everywhere. Some places are surprisingly covered in germs that can be pathogens(the germs the cause illness) or they can be just plain old germs that do no harm what-so-ever. According to Charles Gerba, a professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona, germs are on water fountain buttons, communal(community used) pens, pencil sharpener handles, and even soap dispensers! Like I said, not all germs are pathogens and cause sickness, but they're still out there.
How do I keep from getting sick?
You can keep from getting sick pretty easily. For example, Dr. Neil Schachter, a pulmonary(lung) disease specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital, stated that "you should carry your own pen at all times and use it instead of one at a doctor's office or another public place. Also, you could use antibacterial hand sanitizer occasionally rather than using the public soap dispenser. Plus, don't forget that cover your mouth with your elbow when you cough or sneeze is definitely still a great strategy to use; just don't forget to wash or sanitize afterwards.
