Principal's Message
June 1, 2018
Dear Willink Families,
What a beautiful Friday! Students are clearly sensing the end of the school year and talking about summer plans. Eighth grade students are very excited about tonight’s Luau, as it is their last chance to gather as a class before heading to Thomas High School. In addition to dinner, they will be able to hang out by the bonfire as well as sign each others yearbooks as they received them this morning in homeroom. It should be a great night.
Speaking of yearbooks, 6th and 7th grade students will get them on Monday or Tuesday in homeroom. Then, on Wednesday, any extras will be sold. If you child did not purchase a yearbook, have them watch the morning show for information on how they still might be able to purchase one of the extras.
Regents exams are fast approaching for students in Algebra, Living Environment and LOTE. The Algebra exam will be given on June 12th and the Living Environment is on June 13. Students taking the Algebra and Living Environment exam are being given final details by their teacher. Please email your child’s teacher directly with any questions. On Monday, June 18th, 8th-grade students taking a foreign language will be taking the written portion of the final in the morning. They will get picked up at the normal time and then there will be a bus run home, leaving Willink at 10:15. Please contact your child’s house office if you have questions about transportation on that day.
As the temperatures soar, we are reminding students about the dress code. Please review the dress code in your child's agenda. It is on page three. In particular, please note the guidelines on shorts and tops. Remember, what might be ok at the beach or in other casual settings might not be appropriate for school. If you have any questions, please contact the Willink Main Office at 670-1030.
June's CAREacter trait is responsibility. We will be discussing it on the morning show on Monday as well throughout the remaining few days of school! This is always a great topic to touch on especially as students are getting eager for summer and, perhaps, putting off their studies.
Have a great weekend!
Jim

2018-19 BUDGET APPROVED BY ONE WEBSTER COMMUNITY & BOE MEMBERS ELECTED
Thank you to the Webster Central School District community for exercising your right to vote on Tuesday, May 15, and approving the proposed 2018-19 budget by a 72% margin! We also congratulate Sue Casey and David Metzger, who were elected to three-year terms on the board of education, beginning on July 1, 2018. We also thank board member Bill Kent for his service over the past year.
The board extends its thanks to members of this year’s Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) for their participation and invaluable feedback throughout this year’s budgeting process. If you would like to learn more about the development of school budgets, we invite you to serve on the 2018-19 BAC. Please e-mail Lisa Borrino, WCSD’s Business Office, lisa_borrino@webstercsd.org, or call her at 216-0017, if you would like to serve on next year’s BAC. Thank you in advance!
WCSD ANNOUNCES SCHOOL START-TIME COMMUNITY FORUM - TUESDAY, JUNE 5
At the request of the board of education during its November 2, 2017, meeting, Webster CSD began to explore, study, and problem-solve around the complex issue of potential changes to school start times. Since the first district-wide start time study group meeting on January 31, elementary and secondary work groups comprised of district parents, teachers, administrators, and local medical professionals have been meeting throughout the spring to gather further community feedback and to discuss possible next steps. In addition, Webster CSD Superintendent Carmen Gumina has personally interviewed more than 900 middle and high school students to get their thoughts on any potential changes to school start times.
All of the information gathered by the elementary and secondary work groups will be shared during a Webster CSD School Start-Time Community Forum on Tuesday, June 5, at the Willink Middle School cafetorium, 900 Publishers Parkway, from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. The One Webster community is invited to not only hear the groups’ findings, but also to provide further feedback as this critical issue for our students is studied.
As previously shared, this is not a short-term study. If the board of education determines that changes in Webster CSD are necessary and possible, those changes wouldn’t take place until fall 2019, however, it is important that the district continues to research this critical issue.
Please plan to attend this important community forum on a topic that impacts all Webster CSD students.
