Tiger Talk
8/23/22
Student Drop Off Available as Early as 7 am!
We hope you and your family have had a great start to the new school year! As with any new school year, we know there are some operational challenges to address. In particular, the traffic congestion in and around our schools and longer than usual student drop-off/pickup lines.
We are also aware of the hardships some parents are facing as a result of our rotating schedule for bus services. To provide some relief for our working families, each LTISD elementary campus began opening at 7:00 am beginning Thursday, August 18.
All Tigers being dropped off between 7 am and 7:20 am should be dropped off at the front of the building at our main entrance. Someone will be there to assist the student(s) to enter the building safely.
We ask for your continued patience and understanding during these first weeks of school.
Warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal
Mrs. Susan Ontiveros
Please help our afternoon dismissal to run smoothly....
....by logging in to the SMART Tag parent portal to confirm that your child(ren)'s dismissal arrangements indicate how your child(ren) go home at the end of the day. Recurring dismissal arrangements are easy to set in advance; thus, if your Tiger(s) ride the bus home one week and ride home by car the next, we can set the usual way home (default) to be Bus Rider and add a dismissal change so that every other week is set as Car Rider.
If you need help, we're just a phone call away.
Possible delays in dismissal due to inclement weather
When there is inclement weather during dismissal time, there may be a slight delay in the release of our students.
When we are experiencing heavy rains in the area, the following dismissal procedures will be followed.
Car riders will be dismissed from the gym as normal, however, it may take a little longer to load our students into the car.
Extended care students will continue to be picked up as usual.
Bus riders will be loaded a bus at a time.
Walkers/Bikers: **** Biggest change*** We know that some of our students have quite a distance to walk in the afternoons and the safety of our students is of the utmost importance. All walkers and bikers will be held until the heavy rains have subsided. Walkers can be released to a parent at the door of the 4th-grade hallway. As a reminder, please do not park on Sabino to pick up your child(ren). If you are planning on picking up your child(ren) via car, please use the car rider line.
Parents are able to make a change to a student's mode of dismissal using the parent portal in SMART TAG. Changes can be made before 2:00 pm. If you do not receive a confirmation email reply, please contact the front office by phone at 512.533.7500.
WCHE Parent Meeting
Dear WCHE Parents and Guardians,
Recently, LTISD Accountability ratings were shared with our community. We understand that our campus scores have generated some concerns. Many of you have reached out with questions regarding how this impacts our campus and most importantly, our students. We know that you want the very best for your child, and we want to assure you that we are focused on providing an exemplary education for them here at WCHE.
We would like to invite you to a parent meeting at West Cypress Hills on Monday, August 29, at 5:00 PM. During this meeting, we will explain the Texas State Accountability System and the school rating for WCHE. We would also like to address specific questions from parents during this time. Please take a few moments to fill out this short form with your questions, and we will try to include answers to frequently asked questions during the meeting. We will also provide you with details about the interventions, supports, and improvements we are putting in place for WCHE.
If you are unable to attend the parent meeting on August 29, we will provide access to the information that is shared after the meeting has been held.
Prior to the parent meeting, you can also find more information about the A-F Accountability system on the Texas Education Agency website:

School board calls $703M bond election for November 2022
August 18, 2022
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
In a unanimous vote shortly before midnight Wednesday, August 17, the Lake Travis school board approved an order calling a $703 million bond election for November 8, 2022.
Last month, the District’s Long Range Facilities Planning Committee presented its proposal to the board, calling for districtwide capital improvements to accommodate projected growth in student enrollment. According to demographer Population and Survey Analysts (PASA)—and considering a moderate growth rate scenario—projections indicate an average increase of 3.35% annually between 2022 and 2031, resulting in a total enrollment of approximately 15,700 students.
The major components of the District’s 2022 bond program include:
- New High School
- New Elementary #8
- New Elementary #9
- Lake Travis High School Additions and Upgrades
- Campus and District Renovations and Improvements
- Facilities Condition Assessment Projects
- Technology
- Land
Additional information about the District’s 2022 bond program, including each proposition and an itemized list of projects, will be available on the Lake Travis ISD website beginning August 18. Community presentations will begin in the fall.
Early voting will occur Monday, October 24 through Friday, November 4. Election Day is Tuesday, November 8.
Sincerely,
Marco Alvarado
Executive Director for Communications & Community Relations
