This week, students learned about social activists César Chávez and Dolores Huerta via short videos, a song, and the book Side by Side - Lado a Lado. We talked about the power of their voice — even as young children. They also began working on their own Sí, Se Puede mini-posters with their own messages regarding Igualdad, Respeto, Justicia, Dignidad, Fuerza, Educación, y Racismo.

From Ms. Nasr (our wonderful second grade class)

We have 17.5 days left in 2nd grade and the kids are so excited! In these last weeks we will be finishing up our end of year projects, trying out some 3rd grade math, cleaning up, and doing an end of year count down. In our countdown I have planned a movie and popcorn day with the movie The Pagemaster (1994 Macauley Culkin movie rated G).If you would not like your student to participate in the movie that day please let me know. I can set them up with an alternate activity with another teacher at that time.

Reading-Readers response with independent reading and Dibels assessment (1 on 1 reading assessment that the kids think is silly)

Math-Financial literacy

Science and Social Studies-Recycled art project week 2 of 2 writing about our creations!

Next week we are starting a habitat research, creation, and writing project (May is all projects for science and social studies) that will last for 2 weeks. We have about 6 shoe boxes and small boxes for students to use for their habitats but could use more. If you have any shoe boxes or smallish Amazon boxes to send our way we will definitely use them!

Any materials left over from any project are donated to the STEM labs on campus for their projects. Any time you want to send recycling, boxes, paper tubes, and anything else the STEM and art teachers can always find a way to use it!
